Job Description:

The Manufacturing Engineer implements and maintains well defined, documented, and controlled manufacturing processes pertaining to the braiding, RTM cure, machining, and rework of advanced aerospace composite structures for a new product line. This engineer is responsible for winder and braider equipment setup, ply design, tooling/fixture design oversight, and manufacturing processing. Works cooperatively with other teams including operations, quality, planning, and tooling to support development and production and optimization of the process. Applies theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of manufacturing engineering production problems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Develop and optimize production processes including braiding, cure, and rework process documentation.
  • Record and manage changes in Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
  • Promptly troubleshoot process stoppages to minimize downtime in winding, braiding, and manual layup work cells.
  • Record, monitor, and analyze RTM process cure data with intent to optimize for production.
  • Evaluate nonconforming parts and provide dispositions based on customer specifications.
  • Support root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities relating to safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.
  • Create and maintain processes that meet the proposal and operation's labor and cycle time targets.
  • Create Compliance Matrices for customer requirements.
  • Utilize SPC to monitor quality data and generate and analyze pareto charts.
  • Support the implementation of new processes and automation projects to the manufacturing floor.
  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult-to-solve problems

Experience/Education/Skills

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in manufacturing engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining manufacturing processes and basic knowledge of lean manufacturing principles such as: DMAIC, DFSS, LEAN, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, Mistake Proofing, DOE, DFx
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with technicians, other engineers, and management on technical matters.
  • Strong computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Prefer robotic programming and operation experience.
  • Prefer a good understanding of aerospace composites processing.
  • Prefer composite production experience.
  • Knowledgeable in New Product Development / New Business Development
  • A good understanding of GD&T principles
  • Proficient in CATIA V5 CAD software


Minimum Education and Certification Requirements:

BS/BA Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Equivalent (AE/CE/IE)

or

Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in winding, braiding, and RTM with a technical aptitude may be considered
