Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, of the Citywide Roving Team, the Clinical Social Worker I/II (CSW I/II) works with formerly homeless individuals who live in identified Mission Housing Development Corporation (MHDC) SROs who have difficulty with housing stability because of issues related to mental health problems, chronic physical health issues, and/or substance use/misuse. The program's goals are to prevent homelessness, link participants to appropriate outpatient services, provide consultation and support to onsite staff and build community with residents. The CSW I/II will carry a caseload of residents from these properties and provide individual treatment including; case management services, psychotherapy, counseling, crisis intervention and 5150 assessments, substance abuse treatment, psycho education, intake, assessment, service planning and consultation. The CSWI/II will coordinate closely with on-site management and support services staff from MHDC and Caritas Management Corporation, along with your Citywide Team members, to develop successful treatment strategies; advocacy and coordination with other agencies, families and clients. The CSW I/II will provide referrals and linkage to residents; coordinate closely with hospitals and clinic medical providers to support residents in accessing vital medical treatment, as well as facilitating groups and community events as needed. The CSW I/II will track client contacts in Epic Billing System and complete progress notes, annual assessments and treatment plans in Epic. The candidate will also perform other duties as assigned.

The job will involve the ability to lift 50 lbs., walking and climb stairs. Average 5 miles per day walking.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $37.56 - $50.31 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • CSW I: Masters degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university All the above apply.
  • CSWII (in addition to the above): Masters degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science. All the above apply.
  • Registration with the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • Ability to work with clients and program staff from diverse cultural and social class backgrounds
  • Understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, and be detailed oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes. Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to lift 50lbs and climb stairs
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability
  • A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working with severely mentally ill adults, the homeless and dual diagnosed populations as gained as part of study or while in school, or internship in a similar institution.
  • Experience doing community based case management and the ability to do outreach including to SRO hotels as gained as part of study or while in school, or internship in a similar institution.
  • Case Management experience as gained as part of study or while in school, or internship in a similar institution.
