Staff, Hardware Engineer (Optic Test)

Location (HYBRID): Sunnyvale, CA

Juniper Networks is seeking a talented and experienced Optical Hardware Test Engineer to join its Optical Engineering team in Sunnyvale, CA. This individual will be a subject matter expert in 50G/100G/400G/800G pluggable direct detect optics qualification testing and responsible for implementing and executing pluggable optics verification and performance characterization tests across Juniper's switching, routing and security products.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates optics module test plans to address testing requirements.
  • Builds test stations using optical and electrical test equipment.
  • Creates test automation software to execute tests and store results in database.
  • Performs gauge R&R as needed to assess validity of test stations and processes.
  • Conducts performance characterization and qualification tests.
  • Develop software to process data and analyze results. Generates reports.
  • Conducts interdepartmental test plan and test report reviews. Publishes documents internally.
  • Work closely with Signal Integrity, Electrical Hardware and Software engineering teams to debug, test and bring-up the Juniper routing/switching systems which supports optical transceivers and cables.
  • Support pluggable optics failure analysis.
  • Support external optics certification and interoperability with 3rd party networking equipment.

Requirements:

  • At least BS/MSEE with 5 years of optical module test and characterization experience. Experience in hardware board design is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience testing state of the art 400G and 800G modules per current optical IEEE standards and MSA specifications.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of optical equipment, electrical equipment, and automation software used in the testing of optical modules and interfaces.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a mutually supportive team environment.
  • Must possess written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly process and present test results.

Minimum Salary: $159,200.00

Maximum Salary:$228,850.00

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $159,200.00 and $228,850.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
