QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate with 2+ years of applicable college coursework or technical training in laboratory practices, wastewater treatment or environmental management . Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for post high school formal education. Applicants must pass the EEI TECH test. Other general qualifications such as physical fitness, attendance, safety and performance records will be considered. The applicant should possess the following skills as they apply to the supported trade wastewater treatment:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Understanding and ability to comply with Environmental laws, Safety programs, Supply Chain requirements and other laws governing facility operation
  • Applicable experience (minimum five years), of On-the-Job or technical training in Environmental management or Laboratory practices
  • Ability to read and understand engineering documents, technical manuals and reference materials
  • Ability to interpret and work with or direct others in using Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs) and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Willingness to continually advance expertise through assignments, training or OJT in areas of expertise or where opportunities for knowledge expansion exists
  • Able to obtain U.S. Domestic Hazardous Materials shipper (DoT 49 CFR Parts 171 to 180) certification
  • Able to obtain RCRA Hazardous waste Generator certification (40 CFR Part 265)
  • Willing to pursue State of Indiana wastewater treatment operator license
  • Proficiency in Plant Business systems including the Microsoft Office Suite of products, Oracle, plant drawing controls such as Product Center, etc.
  • Experience working around mechanical equipment including hoists, mobile cranes, specialty tooling, etc.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communications; having the ability to work alon, in a team or directing others as the leader of a group
  • Must be willing to work alternate work shifts including nights, weekends and holidays, and possess a valid driver's license

Additional consideration will be given for the following job-related training or experience:

  • Direct hands-on experience in Commissioning, Construction, Maintenance, Operation, or troubleshooting of power plant systems including reverse osmosis, softeners, clarifiers and filter press.
  • Direct hands-on experience managing contractors/vendors
  • Contractor administrator training
  • Experience using the Plant Information (PI) system software
  • Understanding equipment staging/logistics such as heavy lifting, rigging, etc.
  • Previous Leadership and/or Supervisory experience

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Individuals in this position perform primary work in support of wastewater treatment operators,including in working as a wastewater treatment operator as necessary, and will support Environmental department as time allows. Primary duties listed below and include performance of work such as technical reviews, installation, maintenance, operation, procurement, and troubleshooting of plant systems or components, also:

  • Knows and complies with AES safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work performance
  • Performs duties necessary to maintain or upgrade plant systems or system components
  • Contract administration
  • Assists in chemical procurement for the laboratory, water treatment and wastewater treatment
  • Sampling and analysis of water and wastewater as specified by NPDES permit
  • Scheduling hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments
  • Understands coordination of activities across multiple disciplines necessary in the maintenance and operation of these systems
  • Assists in budgeting process
  • Create, edit, maintain and produce reports as necessary
  • Assist with other duties as required by the Environmental leader
  • Directs others and serves as a vendor liaison

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoor work, Outdoor work as well as plant atmosphere of heat, dirt, noise and fumes
