License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Communication, Business or a related field
  • Five years of higher education experience in Admissions, Enrollment Management, Event Planning, Scholarships or related field
  • Budgetary/fiscal management experience
  • Experience with the scholarship process at Appalachian
  • Experience with event planning
  • Knowledge of university systems- Banner, ASAP, SLATE or equivalent
  • Experience with marketing and public relations
  • Experience with enrollment management/admissions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Since 1899, when first founded as the Watauga Academy, Appalachian State University has a long history of preparing quality educators in North Carolina. The Reich College of Education is comprised of five departments and enrolls approximately 2,400 students in its bachelor's, master's, education specialist and doctoral degree programs. Appalachian offers one of the largest undergraduate teacher preparation programs in North Carolina, graduating approximately 500 teachers a year.
The Reich College of Education Recruitment, Retention and Scholarship Coordinator plays an integral role in the success of our students. They are responsible for developing and implementing strategies to recruit new students, retain current students, and manage scholarship processes. This role works closely with various college and university departments to support enrollment goals, student success, and recruitment event logistics.

The Coordinator has the following duties and responsibilities:

Recruitment and Retention Coordination

  • Coordinate recruitment and retention events for RCOE programs on the Boone and Hickory campuses, as well as other locations as needed
  • Work closely with the RCOE Communications Director to develop and disseminate marketing materials for RCOE programs
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Operations to analyze enrollment data and develop strategies to address enrollment challenges
  • Work closely with the Associate Deans and RCOE Director of Assessment and Accreditation to develop recruitment plans for both undergraduate and graduate enrollment
  • Lias with the Associate Director of Admissions- Recruitment and Special Programs and the Graduate School to develop strategies to recruit undergraduate and graduate students
  • Engage with community college partners and the Director of Partnerships and Engagement to develop recruitment opportunities and supports
  • Chair/Co-chair the RCOE Undergraduate Recruitment and Retention Committee
  • Chair/Co-chair the RCOE Graduate Recruitment and Retention Committee


Scholarships Coordination

  • Timely distribution and organization of incoming freshmen, continuing, and graduate scholarship opportunities.
  • Market, recruit and publicize the more than 130 RCOE scholarships.
  • Work closely with App State's North Carolina Teaching Fellows Director, Appalachian Community of Education Scholars (ACES) Coordinator and other RCOE James Center for Student Success and Advising staff to provide programming and learning opportunities about both scholarships, professional development, and Graduate school program
  • Chair all related RCOE Scholarship committees for all incoming, continuing, and graduate students and oversee scholarship awards.
  • Develop and provide data and reports related to scholarships and Accelerated Admission annually and/or upon request.
  • Manage and maintain all RCOE scholarship budgets.
  • Utilize the Appalachian Scholarship Application Portal (ASAP) Scholarship system to manage, update and maintain RCOE scholarship awards and donor agreements.
  • Work closely with the RCOE Associate Dean responsible for scholarship oversight and the RCOE Development Officer to develop policies, processes, and protocols to support scholarships/Accelerated Admissions.
  • Develop and maintain an RCOE SCHOLARSHIP Webpage.
  • Effectively communicate all policies and procedures related to scholarships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Coordinate with the RCOE Communications Director to develop scholarship and Accelerated Master's Admissions materials to promote, recruit and retain students.
  • Communicate and meet regularly with the RCOE Development Officer to ensure that scholarships and donor wishes are maintained.
  • Coordinate with the School of Graduate Studies and programs as needed regarding the Accelerated Master's Program.and support
  • Chair all related Scholarship committees for all incoming, continuing, and graduate students and oversee scholarship awards

Event Planning/Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate annual scholarship luncheon (100+ participants)
  • Assist with the annual Rhododendron Society luncheon (50+ participants)
  • Assist the Director of the RCOE James Center for Student Success and Advising in planning the Teacher Education Resource Fair (100+ participants)
  • Coordinate and serve as point person for RCOE graduate hooding ceremonies
  • Manage events and Engage calendars for RCOE
  • Serve as the primary contact for logistics support for RCOE programs and events: reserve venues, administer service contracts, and secure event needs related to facilities, technology, equipment, lodging, catering, etc
  • Collaborate closely with the RCOE Communications Director to develop effective marketing and communications plans for events
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Admissions - Recruitment and Special Programs and Director of the RCOE James Center for Student Success and Advising to plan and implement the following events:

    • Open House Events (Boone and Hickory)
    • Teacher Preview Day
    • First Thursdays
    • Inside Appalachian
    • Other events, as needed
