About the Job
Summary: The BioGen Center, formed from the joint departments of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development (GCD) and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics (BMBB), seeks a Financial Analyst to manage financial oversight and analysis for both sponsored and non-sponsored accounts. This role involves comprehensive financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance to ensure adherence to funding agencies and University policies.
Key Responsibilities: Financial Oversight and Management (45%): Provide financial analysis and management for sponsored and non-sponsored accounts. Prepare and present financial reports to faculty and management. Forecast budgets and expenses, ensuring compliance with University policies. Serve as the effort coordinator and oversee document approval processes. Reporting and Consolidation (25%): Create consolidated financial statements and generate standard/customized monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Provide analytical information to assist in decision-making for management and principal investigators. Audit and Transaction Management (15%): Audit and approve financial purchasing and adjusting transactions across assigned projects. Inform departmental staff on expenditure requirements and policies. Coordinate quarterly effort certification and collaborate with faculty to resolve discrepancies. Chart of Accounts Management (10%): Manage the Chart of Accounts, including activating revenue/expense strings and setting up combo codes for payroll. Assist with annual budget preparation and entry for all assigned divisions. Additional Duties (5%): Engage in special projects and events with project leaders, financial staff, and outside agencies. Conduct year-end budgeting and prepare for internal and external audits, ensuring the integrity of accounting systems.
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field plus 4 years experience, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 8 years. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail. Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in financial analysis, reporting, and budgeting, preferably in a research or academic environment. University of MN Certified Approver

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTS BMBB: The department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics is committed to understanding the molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases and cancer; developing novel strategies in biocatalysis and biotechnology; and advancing knowledge through structural biology and molecular biophysics. We organize ourselves into research divisions with emphases on Chemical and Structural Biology, Metabolic and Systems Biology, Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology and Biotechnology. We are housed in new buildings with state-of-the-art research and support facilities. GCD: The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development (GCD) spans a broad spectrum of biological disciplines, including the storage and expression of information (genetics), its translation into the workings of individual cells (cell biology), and the assembly of cells into tissues and organ systems (development).
