Responsibilities
We are hiring a Project Architect - focused on Existing Buildings - for our Albany, NY office. This person will be responsible for the leadership and technical execution of project design, building code and stamping, and technical quality of project documentation. This person may supervise job captains, architects, architectural designers, architectural interns, or drafters at various times on a project.
- Plan and conduct work requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard construction components and systems to execute design intent
- May be responsible for stamping and sealing bid documents
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of professional work in part of a medium scope project or in a total project of smaller scope
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and ADA requirements
- Assist the Project Director in developing project staff-hours and planning schedule for his/her aspects of the project
- Coordinate the layout, design, drafting, and specifications produced by other architects and technicians who assist in specific assignments
- Mentor junior staff; assist in the development of future project architects
- In consultation with the Project Director, assist in establishing project design criteria
- Through research, study, and consultation with outside consultants and professional societies, keep informed of new developments and systems as they influence the individual's particular field of architectural practice and design
- Promote technologies and methodologies to create innovative approaches and improve technical quality of work product; keep abreast of new technologies, changes in building codes, and advances in the industry
- Work collaboratively in a cross-discipline environment to produce integrated project documents, and insure integrated design approaches & solutions
Qualifications
- Professional degree in Architecture or equivalent; Undergraduate studies or Graduate studies in Historic Preservation preferred
- Must be a Registered Architect
- At least 8 years related experience and/or training
- Experience in the renovation, rehabilitation and modernization of existing buildings
- Experience with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and their application on projects
- Experience in coordination with engineering disciplines (M/E/P/FP/S) on the design for sensitively inserting new systems in existing buildings
- Requires sound knowledge of basic code principles
- Ability to use BIM software
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead others and foster teamwork
- Ability to use good judgment and make timely decisions
- Requires knowledge of basic firm financial metrics related to project management
- Proactive management style
Base Compensation: $75,000 - $120,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skills and/or location) #LI-JK1
