Position Description

Rise Up's Development Associate plays a critical role in supporting the Development team's efforts to achieve its fundraising goals, with a focus on growing individual giving revenue. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and possesses outstanding communication skills.

This is a time-limited, full-time, fully remote position that is expected to work for 7 months starting in November 2024. The incumbent is required to conduct occasional travel domestically and internationally for team retreat or workshop. Candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA are preferred.

Full pay range for this position: $27.57 to $39.31 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is from $27.57 (minimum) to $33.44 (midpoint) per hour. The starting wage is determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Events:



  • Support the strategic vision and execution of virtual and in-person events, including Rise Up's Annual Gala, fundraising salons, speaker series, and other types of fundraising and stewardship events.


Donor Prospecting and Cultivation:



  • Identify new funding opportunities by conducting strategic prospect research on individual donors, family foundations, and giving circles aligned with Rise Up's mission.
  • Prepare donor briefings for Rise Up's Executive Director and Development and Engagement Manager in advance of donor calls.
  • Assist with overall donor engagement and relationship management as needed.


Fundraising Efficiencies:



  • Administer Rise Up's fundraising platform (Donorbox), focusing on growing online giving.
  • Develop prospect pipeline in Salesforce made up of current donors and new donor prospects.
  • Support with ongoing Salesforce maintenance, ensuring accurate contact management, donor segmentation, and stewardship planning.


Gift Processing and Acknowledgements:



  • Process donations in coordination with administrative/finance team.
  • Support all gift tracking and ensure the timely acknowledgment of donor gifts.
  • Develop new acknowledgment letters as needed.


Other:



  • Assist in developing and implementing fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, online giving, and peer-to-peer initiatives.
  • Provide broad administrative support to the Development team, scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and organizing files.
  • Provide logistics support for event/conference guests, including but not limited to travel arrangements, documentation, and honorarium request processing.
  • Provide expenditure reconciliation for the Department Lead, as well as note-taking and logistical support for in-person/hybrid department meetings.
  • Conduct occasional travel domestically and internationally for team retreat or workshop.
  • Complete special projects and provide support to the fundraising team as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience supporting development efforts in a global non-profit organization.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, or substitute with four additional years of relevant experience.


Other Qualifications

  • Experience with individual giving, gift solicitation, and relationship-building.
  • Experience with donor management databases (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge) and online fundraising platforms.
  • Experience supporting development efforts in a global or multicultural context is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and in diverse communities, cultures, and time zones.
  • Strong administration, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills with the ability to craft clear and compelling donor communications.
  • Advanced computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness and ability to conduct occasional travel domestically and internationally for team retreat or workshop.
  • Strong commitment to Rise Up's mission and values with an understanding of the importance of global development and gender equity.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Basic understanding of CRM software and familiarity with fundraising tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Communications, or a relevant social science).
