Summary:
Under the direction of the Diagnostic Imaging Manager performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Responsible for designated areas or procedures as required. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical psychosocial and cultural needs. Fosters patient and family centered care and radiologic services in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital*s mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

Responsibilities:
Meets greets answers questions and provides an understandable explanation of Radiologic examinations to patients in order to reduce apprehension. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.

Schedules patients for radiologic examinations in a prescribed manner ensuring an efficient patient flow.

Processes radiographic images using the CR Readers and scans the images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review.

Performs diagnostic procedures demonstrating sound understanding of anatomical positioning physiology and technical factors in order to produce optimum results.

Scans documents into Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and (PACS) when applicable.

Provides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed

Operates fixed radiographic equipment in the Radiology Department and/or transports and operates portable radiographic equipment on nursing units.

Assists physician and physician assistant in the administration of opaque contrast media. Processes exposed radiographic images as required.

Follows protocols for appropriate usage of the RIS and PACS.

Maintains orderliness cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area. Rotates within the department and by shift as required including weekends and holidays.

Participates in the training and instruction of radiologic technology for staff radiographers and students.

Maintains quality assurance observant of hospital and department safety regulations environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Attire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards.

Performs other related duties as required.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent.

Maintains a current license to work in the State of Rhode Island.

Must hold current ARRT certification.

Ability to consistently meet the following job accountabilities: critical thinking interpersonal skills team membership customer focus initiative and reliability.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Successful completion of clinical experience required for certification.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients visitors physicians and staff of all levels and display empathy towards all patients.

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals physicians* offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.

Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.

Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.

Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.

Subject to electrical and energy hazards.

May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
