Director, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a Division Director for an Associate Professor or Professor position in the appointment (non-tenure) stream or tenure stream. The ideal candidate for this position is a nationally recognized physician-leader with a commitment to faculty development, sponsorship, and recruitment and excellence in clinical care, research, and education. Applicants must have an M.D., or D.O. degree. The Division Director should be an accomplished leader in laboratory-based, patient-oriented, translational, quality-improvement, or educational research and scholarship.

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh encompasses the largest, most comprehensive gastroenterology and liver disorder program in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northern West Virginia. The Division is consistently ranked as a top program in U.S. News & World Report surveys and is currently ranked #10 nationally for 2023-2024 in Gastroenterology and GI surgery. The Division currently includes 20 faculty members and 14 advanced-practice providers, who provide compassionate, state-of-the-art care through programs in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Motility, and Pediatric Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders. The Division is also home to nationally recognized programs in intestinal rehabilitation, hepatology, and abdominal transplant. Members of the Division have research interests spanning laboratory-based, translational, and clinical research. The Division has an outstanding fellowship program to train future leaders in pediatric gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is comprised of 20 divisions, six centers, and two institutes, with over 400 faculty members. The Department receives around $60 million in annual research support from the NIH and other federal and non-federal funding agencies.

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, included in the Top 10 Honor Roll on U.S. News & World Report's 2023-2024 list of "America's Best Children's Hospitals," is a 317-bed, free-standing children's hospital located in the thriving Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. UPMC Children's Hospital cares for over 90% of all hospitalized children in our region, a large catchment area that includes Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, Northern West Virginia, and Southwestern New York. Overlooking the Allegheny River and much of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, the hospital is minutes away from the downtown cultural district, home stadiums for three major league sports teams, an internationally recognized culinary scene, and renowned centers of higher education at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon University.

The position is for the recruitment of an Associate Professor or Professor on the appointment (non-tenure) stream or tenure stream. Available positions are open to all applicants who hold doctoral level education in the field of medicine (MD, DO), are board certified or board eligible, are qualified for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and meet the minimum position credentials for the pediatric specialty to provide clinical service. Responsibilities will include clinical patient care, teaching, service, admin, and research as determined by the Chair.

This position is in the tenure or non-tenure track at the University of Pittsburgh with rank and salary commensurate with experience and academic credentials. General rank requirements: Associate Professors have 7-10 years of experience with significant demonstrated academic progress/contributions in their pediatric specialty; Professors have 10 or more years of experience with clear demonstration of leadership, academic excellence, and innovation in pediatric hematology and oncology.
