GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed. The Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medicine School is looking for a talented Biostatistician to join our laboratory within the Program in Sleep Medicine Epidemiology. The candidate would perform genetic and electronic health record-based analyses of sleep apnea and related comorbidities in humans. Data sources include the Mass General Brigham biobank and linked sleep clinic data, the UK and All of Us biobanks, and the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) consortium and linked cohort study sleep data. In these cohorts, data to be analyzed includes whole-genome and imputed genetic data, advanced polysomnographic sleep apnea phenotypes, and clinical diagnoses, laboratory results, and note phrases classified using natural language processing. Methods include genetic association, causal mediation and machine learning. The work will be performed as part of an interdisciplinary team, consisting of geneticists and genetic epidemiologists, biostatisticians, computational biologists, and translational scientists and clinicians. Successful candidates will work closely with students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty. QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.)
MS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative field. Formal coursework in a biological science required. Must have previous research experience in epidemiology, genetics, and/or biomarkers of human disease.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.) * Experience in Programing with Python and R that focuses on computational biological applications within a Linux environment. * Demonstrated ability as the lead author of scientific reports and/or manuscripts. * Ability to work in a highly collaborative and intellectually challenging environment. * Must work independently * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
