Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required in a technical, engineering or business-related discipline. Minimum of 15 years of increasing leadership responsibility, including demonstrated success in senior-level engineering or business leadership on complex DoD programs. Master's Degree preferred, either in technical discipline or MBA.

Demonstrated success in growing a leadership team required.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is highly desirable at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Vice President, Engineering for the Maritime & Strategic Systems (M&SS) Line of Business (LoB). The successful candidate will be a member of the M&SS Leadership Team, and report directly to the Vice President & General Manager. You will have full responsibility for the 2000 plus employee engineering team and will be fully accountable for engineering execution within the Line of Business.

You will be responsible for enhancing the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Job Responsibilities:

Below are key responsibilities of the M&SS VP of Engineering

  • Disciplined engineering execution in support of business outcomes (People, Processes and Tools)
  • Full accountability for DPMEs and System Architects
  • Review of bids and program execution
  • Support key technical initiatives and/or problem resolution
  • Effective talent management - getting the right smart people in the right roles and leading and motivating a large team
  • Collaborate across Mission Systems and share resources where necessary, proactively anticipating needs
  • Accountable for effective implementation of business-driven IR&D
  • Drive improvements in engineering through process change and implementation of new methods/tools and application of appropriate resources
  • Coordination of engineering training including higher level training at the Mission Systems level
  • Drive the implementation of technology into the LoB, including AI
  • Assess functional specialty areas and work across Mission Systems to ensure utilization (Human Factors, Safety, ILS, CM/DM)
  • Participate in Engineering Council with other LoB Engineering VPs to enable collaboration across LOBs as needed to drive enterprise continuity through activities such as engineering leadership programs, training, tools, and secure enclaves
  • Financial activities such as Engineering budgets/forecasts, capital/expense management, and financial analysis (direct/indirect labor usage)
  • People activities such as performance management, hiring, headcount management and forecasting, close collaboration with our Learning and Organizational Development team on training and development, and employee recognition

The successful candidate will have direct experience in leading and growing large teams who execute technologically complex programs in a changing environment.

We seek a candidate with strong relationships in the nuclear and non-nuclear Navy, as well as the strategic deterrence community supporting both the Navy and Air Force. A Secret clearance is highly desirable.

Preferred candidate must have a clearly demonstrated background developing dynamic leadership teams, building enduring customer relationships, and an ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.

Target salary range: USD $289,185.20/Yr. - USD $312,907.40/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
