Senior Tax Accountant

Our client, a well-established firm located in Murfreesboro, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tax professional with a proven track record in corporate and individual tax strategies. The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, conducting tax research, advising clients on tax implications, and assisting in managing the workflow of the tax team. This role also involves mentoring and developing junior tax accountants, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to tax authorities, and supporting audits. The Tax Accountant does work on site in Murfreesboro and 2+ years of tax accounting experience is desired. While not required, a CPA would be a plus.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Prepare complex federal and state tax returns for corporations, partnerships, individuals, estates, and trusts.
  • Calculate, prepare, and communicate extensions and estimated tax payments for business entities and individuals.
  • Conduct tax research using authoritative sources to resolve issues and ensure compliance with tax laws.
  • Review tax returns and work products prepared by other team members.
  • Assist the Tax Manager in managing workflow and directing segments of the tax preparation process.
  • Advise clients on tax strategies and the tax impact of corporate and individual actions.
  • Provide assistance with audits and negotiations with tax authorities.
  • Propose and implement approved tax strategies after researching federal, state, and local tax issues.
  • Oversee compliance in specialized areas, such as payroll tax, sales tax, and 1099 filings.
  • Lead the coordination of Annual 1099 training for staff and oversee the filing of returns.
  • Prepare tax training materials for staff and present key topics, including year-end procedures.
  • Draft written correspondence to federal and state agencies and communicate resolutions to clients.
  • Manage and oversee compliance in one tax type, such as payroll, sales tax, or 1099 filings.


Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • 4+ years of experience in accounting, tax preparation, and financial reporting (required)
  • Experience with corporate and individual tax returns (required)
  • CPA license (preferred)
  • Master of Business Taxation (MBT) or similar advanced degree (preferred)
