Position Summary
WebMD/Medscape seeks an Executive Director to lead editorial multichannel content campaign initiatives, ensuring high-quality, engaging, audience-specific health and medical content.
This role involves leading a team of content strategists, editors, video producers, and social media professionals to ideate, create and curate content that attracts and engages designated audiences in both the professional and consumer spaces. The Executive Director is responsible for both strategy and execution, working closely with editorial, marketing and business partners across the company.
This role will heavily leverage analytics, AI, and other technology to assist editors and writers in developing content that grows engagement across audience segments and helps drive business results.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership abilities, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a deep understanding of the medical industry and both the healthcare professional and consumer audiences. Creativity, unconventional thinking, news and marketing judgment, AI prompt-writing experience, and an understanding of performance analytics are critical to the success of this position. The Executive Director will also be adept at managing budgets and multiple projects, while being responsive to changing priorities and audience trends.
This role is based on our Atlanta, New York City (Newark), Portland, or Los Angeles offices or potentially remotely from other US locations. It reports to the Group Vice President, Content.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Campaign strategy and planning: Develops strategy for editorial content to engage identified audiences. Routinely develops and tests new push content tactics for maximum audience attraction and engagement. Projects content volumes and anticipated results.
  • Marketing partnership: Work closely with marketing partners to develop and test content with specific audiences through a variety of marketing channels and tactics.
  • Content development: Collaborate with editors, writers, and multimedia teams to create, plan and execute content strategies.
  • Social media strategy: Direct social media team to develop strategies and KPIs that support campaigns and other social programs.
  • Project management: Lead and manage projects across the campaigns initiative and matrixed teams, from concept to execution, ensuring deadlines are met and goals are achieved.
  • Audience engagement: Monitor site and app traffic and user engagement metrics to inform campaigns strategy and improve user experience.
  • People management: Manage and mentor team of 15 leaders, editors, writers and social media strategists, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Quality control: Conduct regular reviews of the website to ensure all content adheres to editorial standards.
  • Budget planning and management: Work closely with finance to forecast and spend budget for campaign and oncology initiatives. Understand P&L and accounting basics to ensure funds are spent optimally.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in a field related to this position (such as Communications, Media, or Journalism)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital content creation for healthcare audiences (professional and/or consumer)
  • Experience creating content across multiple platforms (such as social media, streaming video, web, and/or app)
  • Proficiency with content management systems (CMS)
  • Experience with performance analytics.
  • Experience with multimedia production and integration.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent people and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
