The Firm is seeking a full time Senior Conflicts Attorney to join the Office of General Counsel. As a member of the Office of General Counsel, the Senior Conflicts Attorney is responsible for supporting new matter intake and lateral attorney hiring by helping to identify, analyze and resolve conflicts of interest in a timely manner. The Senior Conflicts Attorney will also be tasked with building out the Firm's conflicts clearance function, including by assisting in hiring, training and managing other Conflicts Analysts. The Senior Conflicts Attorney also will counsel the Firm's partners, counsel and associates on conflicts matters; conduct relevant trainings; and assist with drafting waiver letters and engagement letter provisions and setting up information screens, as needed.

In carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position, the Senior Conflicts Attorney will work closely with the attorneys involved in particular matters, Conflicts Analysts, and other members of the Office of General Counsel.

This is a hybrid role and requires three in-office days.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advise relevant attorneys and others in the Firm on the information required to complete conflicts of interest checks.
  • Review and analyze conflicts of interest reports and identify any potential conflicts.
  • Prepare concise summary reports for the relevant attorneys identifying potential conflicts issues that require attention and possible resolution, and follow-up with attorneys to ensure prompt resolution of conflicts issues, including whether waivers may be required.
  • Counsel relevant attorneys and others in the Firm on conflicts issues as they arise.
  • Assist with drafting and reviewing waiver letters and engagement letter provisions to ensure they adequately address conflicts scenarios, as well as follow-up to ensure waivers are obtained as necessary. Establish information screens where required.
  • Conduct trainings for Firm lawyers and other personnel on conflicts, including issues specific to particular practice areas.
  • Work collaboratively with the Office of General Counsel and other stakeholders at the Firm in building out the Firm's conflicts clearance function.

    • Assist in hiring additional Conflicts Analysts.
    • Train and manage those Conflicts Analysts.




Requirements:

  • Strong working knowledge of the conflicts of interest rules in the New York Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be able to articulate conflicts issues accurately, clearly and succinctly to senior lawyers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities needed to address complex conflicts questions.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be extremely detail oriented; issue-tracking, follow-up and resolution skills are essential.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, deadline-driven environment and to respond appropriately to shifting priorities.
  • Aptitude for quickly learning about the Firm's practice areas and how conflict issues play out in each of those practices.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed to assist with urgent matters.


Specific Technical Knowledge

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to learn new software programs a must.


Education and Experience Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school required.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in any US jurisdiction (though New York preferred) and in good standing.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous conflicts analysis, research, and resolution experience.
