Senior Accountant - Hybrid, Minnetonka, MN

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Producing Line-of-Business claim lag triangles used by the actuaries and reserving teams during month end close. These reports are critical to the actuarial process of estimating the monthly IBNR reserve
  • Managing the RPS package structure that supports the above stated needs, ensuring all GL data is mapped to an RPS package for assigned market. Researching and mapping new GL strings
  • Providing subject matter expertise to the reserving and actuarial teams in resolving claim and membership variances between the financial systems: FSDB, RPS and CHART
  • Uploading reserve adjustments into CHART, so the reserves amounts match the same reserve amounts the actuarial and reserving team has calculated
  • Overseeing accounting controls necessary to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the data used in the reserving process. (Internal controls and SOX controls)
  • Ability to work with accounting and/or financial systems for ledger queries, reconciliations and journaling
  • Develop an understanding of the systematic processing of Claim Financial Data from upstream source systems through and to downstream sources, to support additional accounting needs
  • Ensure critical processing and control issues are resolved in a timely manner for both incoming source system feeds and downstream outputs
  • Provide Customer Support from a Processing and/or Financial Perspective
  • Promote financial data integrity, compliance and auditability of the financial systems



In addition to month-end accounting processes this role provides regulatory and audit support, including:



  • D&T, BT, Internal, DOI and SOX audit support
  • Generating and reconciling quarterly claim reports for the regulatory teams

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in Accounting/Finance
  • 2+ years of professional work experience in area of accounting or finance
  • Intermediate level experience in Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them
  • Demonstrated ability to internalize, interpret and document complex scenarios clearly and concisely
  • Proven high ethical standards
  • Proven excellent analytical skills and demonstrated ability to enhance processes
  • Proven track record of delivering high quality results
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and intellectual curiosity with the ability resolve issues/questions
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills with attention to detail
  • Proven solid Time Management, prioritization and organization skills
  • Proven energetic and forward thinking team player



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience or coursework with SAS, SQL, VBA programming languages
  • Experience within a complex working environment with various hierarchical commitments
  • Exposure to PeopleSoft or Essbase/Smartview
  • Experience in analyzing large amounts of data
