Position Description
Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Clinical care responsibilities include direct patient care in outpatient general pediatric clinic setting.
  • Provides patient care according to approved protocols under Medical Director in collaboration with supervising physician.
  • Obtains patient health histories; conducts physical examinations, assesses patient complaints, and administers appropriate treatment.
  • Determines need for specialized medical testing for diagnosis or treatment, Orders tests appropriately.
  • Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding a plan of care, problems, and other health care issues.
  • Provides the full spectrum of health care services including health prevention, disease prevention, health protection, anticipatory guidance and counseling, and disease management, palliative care.
  • Use advanced health assessment skills to differentiate between rounds and variations of normal and abnormal findings.
  • Orders and interprets labs, and diagnostic tests, such as X-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory test results for deviations from normal.
  • Prescribes and manages medication. Prescriptive authority III-V; All non-controlled substances
  • Manages the health/illness status of patients and families over time.
  • Examines patient, performs a comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Collaborates and consults with Supervising Physician to implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in the provision of continuity of care.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Administrative responsibilities involve establishing positive relationships with providers, nursing support, and patient support staff while serving as a liaison to the practice manager of all sites and nurse manager of all sites.


Required Qualifications
Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
