Overview |
The purpose of the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (
OVPR) is to support the faculty and scholars (undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellow/associates) of Rutgers -New Brunswick in advancing their preeminence in research and scholarship through fostering innovations, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engaged scholarship. The
OVPR serves as a strategic partner in New Brunswick advocating for resources, developing communication/opportunities, and supporting seed funding initiatives, to promote an inclusive culture for research and scholarship. The Office also provides advice and planning for university-wide research initiatives and priorities including its Centers and Institutes, supporting New Brunswick and its cross-campus and Chancellor-led units' research infrastructure development, working closely with the central Office for Research and other central offices. |

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Director for Research Development.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Facilitates NB strategic priorities as it pertains to leading the facilitation of mid-to-large scale multi-million dollar grants for the Chancellor-reporting Signature Initiatives (CSI), in the areas of Climate and Energy, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Life Sciences, and Behavioral Health.
- Researches and analyzes funding agencies and organizations to identify potential funding sources and analyzes funding mechanisms.
- Establishes and maintains working relationships with funding agencies, organizations, and institutions and facilitates discussions concerning research opportunities.
- Writes technical and non-technical sections for proposals and edits and analyzes proposal drafts with an eye to solicitation requirements and funding agency needs.
- Leads collaborations with faculty and staff to develop areas of potential research and develops successful proposals.
- Supports experiential learning initiatives as they pertain to broader impacts requirements for large-scale sponsored programs.
- Responsible for launching research ideation forums, speed networking events, grantsmanship workshops, information sessions, and seminars for the CSIs and New Brunswick School units.
- Hires, supervises, and manages the office team.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree, preferably in STEM or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- At least five (5) years of relevant research development experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
- A valid driver's license would be required for this position; Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and staff.
- Strong skills in planning, organizing, information integration, and decision-making.
- Experience in leading mid-to-large scale multi-million dollar sponsored programs.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Doctorate degree in a STEM field or JD.
- Seven (7) years of progressive experience.
