Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is seeking a Trauma Registrar to join the Trauma team! This role is full-time working Monday-Friday.

Requirements for consideration:



  • Associate degree (or relevant experience in lieu of degree)
  • 2 years of experience with EHR
  • Trauma Registry Course (obtain within 6 months)
  • AAAM Abbreviated Injury Scale Course (obtain within 6 months)
  • ICD-10 Course, with a refresher course every 5 years (obtain within 6 months)



Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:



  • Manages the trauma registry database and perform medical record reviews to support department, hospital, state and national requirements.
  • Abstracts all required data elements utilizing national, state and local data dictionaries to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Maintains the structure and integrity of all data by performing regular quality checks as delineated in the Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Ensures compliance with Inova, HIPPA, and all regulatory requirements related to the trauma registry.
  • Partners in the development, maintenance, and updates of the data dictionary for the trauma registry.
  • Ensures the availability of trauma registry data for timely reports to the state and others through chart closure within 60 days of patient discharge.
  • Ensures coding is accurate and appropriate to reflect patient acuity (ISS scores).
  • Ensures complete and accurate- data retrieval and abstraction for PI, research, clinical activities, and projects.
  • Maintains concurrent data collection and entry according to department guidelines/policy and reviews for accuracy.
  • Ensures the identification and inclusion of all trauma patients in the trauma registry through analysis of EPIC-generated reports.
  • Identifies discrepancies and barriers to strengthen/improve data reporting.
  • Monitors vendor performance to ensure effective and efficient use of products, services, and technical support.
  • Serves as a department resource for trauma registry applications, including user training and back-up support.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
