As the Tax Manager, you will lead and oversee the comprehensive income tax compliance and research functions across diverse disciplines, serving as a key advisor to the Director of Tax and executive leadership on income and franchise tax strategy. This role requires strategic oversight, technical expertise, and cross-functional collaboration to manage the tax function for a multi-state, multi-subsidiary S-corporation and its shareholders.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Tax Compliance Oversight: Direct and ensure timely compliance with income and franchise tax requirements, including supervising the preparation of tax returns and workpapers for all book-to-tax adjustments.
  • Strategic Tax Planning: Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the organization's tax position, working closely with leadership to align with business objectives.
  • Tax Research and Advisory: Lead in-depth tax research and analysis on complex federal and state tax issues, providing actionable recommendations to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
  • Forecasting and Projections: Oversee the preparation of sophisticated quarterly income tax projections, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business operations and shareholder requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors to manage special projects, including tax credit optimization, corporate restructuring, and other high-impact initiatives.
  • Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement in tax processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy, leveraging technology and best practices.
  • Compliance Resolution: Manage the resolution of state and federal tax notices, developing strategies to address complex compliance issues while minimizing risks.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Mentor and guide a team of tax professionals, fostering technical growth and ensuring the successful execution of tax deliverables.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay up to date of evolving tax legislation and proactively assess the impact of changes on the organization, advising leadership on implications and necessary actions.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary liaison for tax-related matters with internal stakeholders, consultants, and external auditors, ensuring alignment and transparency.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive decision-making at all organizational levels.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal and state income tax regulations, with the ability to navigate complex technical issues effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Masters in Accounting or Taxation preferred
  • CPA highly desired
  • 4+ years of experience in tax compliance, planning, and research, with a focus on multi-entity structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tax compliance cycles and priorities within strict deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive decision-making at all organizational levels.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal and state income tax regulations, with the ability to navigate complex technical issues effectively.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;
  • office location and other geographic considerations;
  • other business and organizational needs.

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
