Established in 1891, Elizabeth City State University is a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina. The University currently offers 27 undergraduate and 4 graduate programs of study in fields such as aviation and natural sciences, business administration, accounting, sport management, teaching and, visual and performing arts, mathematics and computer science, social sciences and other select professional and pre-professional areas. Known for its small class sizes and student-centered approach to educating undergraduates, the University is located on the beautiful northeastern coast of North Carolina in the Historic town of Elizabeth City. The Division of Academic Affairs provides leadership in developing and maintaining quality academic programs and support services that contribute to the achievement of the university's mission. The Department of Aviation and Emergency Management is the academic unit within the School of Science, Aviation, Health and Technology at Elizabeth City State University that educates, trains students and offer degrees in three of the most dynamic programs: Aviation Science, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Emergency Management. Aviation and Emergency Management students have a range of program options from which to choose. An experienced and dedicated faculty helps each student on an individual basis to choose the aviation program that best meets his/her career interests. The Aviation Science (Flight Education and Aviation Management tracks) are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International ( AABI).
Description of Work
The School of Science, Aviation, Health and Technology invites application for the Director of Operations - Aviation who will provide direction and leadership to the aviation and flight operation expansion plan, managing the operation and programs related to the existing and new flight hubs, coordinating program development, strategic hiring, identifying and developing industry partnerships and support, and ensuring compliance with ECSU and the FAA.
The successful candidate will be a strategic leader with a deep understanding of industry demand, aviation training, and the ability to drive expansion and growth in our flight operations.
The position will oversee program marketing efforts and activities related to student recruitment at the flight hubs; facilitates development of collegiate partnerships and provide analysis and recommendations for operational improvement.
Will act as designated Safety Officer and ensure the flight hub is maintained in safe operating condition; assists with acquisition of flight training resources for hubs and infrastructure development and growth; coordinate with state agencies on projects for the hub development.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
Possess analytical skills for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with multiple internal and external parties within an academic organizational structure.
Possess a deep understanding of aviation training, industry demand, and the ability to drive expansion and growth in our flight operations.
Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks to completion with an attention to detail.
Experience in the aviation or aerospace enterprise
Excellent written and oral communications skills, articulating information to diverse internal/external stakeholders in a clear and concise manner; including presentations to key stakeholders.
Possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze data and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems.
Possess excellent professionalism, teamwork and interpersonal skills to interface effectively with a diverse population at all levels of the unit and its academic and industrial partners.
Possess the ability to operate efficiently a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
Demonstrate the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of records and information. Possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; and use reason in potentially volatile situations.
Minimum Training and Experience
A Master's degree in a related field with at least three (3) years of related experience in managing aviation-related operation. Experience with budget planning, operations, logistics, and management. Demonstrated experience in developing and managing aviation projects. Experience with project planning and risk analysis.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
