Professional Service Coder I

JOB PURPOSE

Enters and validates professional charges for Cottage Urgent Care locations, Cottage Children's Medical Group, and other Cottage clinics. Evaluates medical records, completes clinical data abstraction and assigns appropriate clinical diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines for reporting and billing of physician and allied health services.

QUALIFICATIONS

All job qualifications listed indicate the minimum level necessary to perform this job proficiently.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION

Minimum:

Preferred: Completed and passed AAPC Certified Professional Coding Certification or AHIMA Certified Coding Assistant Certification

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Minimum: Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC, or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA or achieved within 1 year of hire.

Preferred: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA or achieved within 1 year of hire.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum:

Preferred: Six (6) months working with electronic health records and professional billing.

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum:

Preferred: 6 months of experience in billing or coding for professional services.
