Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a mid-career Civil / Structural Engineer 3/4 to support the design team as a lead design engineer on projects. The candidate will be responsible for developing plans and specifications following applicable standards. The candidate shall have an excellent understanding of the design process and ability to mentor other engineers. Assignments typically include a combination of on-site and office duties for various projects (e.g. highway/ transportation, structural, drainage, site development, and other public works improvements). Excellent communication and organizational skills are required as well as the ability to multi-task and work independently and in a team. Duties will also include communication with and coordination of other engineering disciplines, other company divisions, and consultants, as needed, to complete projects.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can multitask and pay close attention to detail. We are looking for someone with the ability to understand and apply codes, standards, policies, and procedures. Ability to troubleshoot and develop solutions to complex problems.

While working to achieve objectives, the successful candidate will: ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner through maintaining required safety, security, and operational training. Making safety, security and quality an integral part of every task including taking the necessary steps to pause or stop work as necessary to ensure the safety and security of personnel and the job site.

Essential Job Functions (may include, but are not limited to):

Responsibilities/ Duties (may include, but are not limited to):

* Perform field investigations and assessments. Perform standard computations or analysis. Prepare drawings and visual aids.

* Perform occasional drafting and/or figure development using technical software as required.

* Apply prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks.

* Perform the design of various civil/ structural engineering projects, and checks design work of staff and design engineers assigned to projects under their control.

* Mentors and trains junior engineering staff.

* Preparation or modification of various types of reports, specifications, plans, forms, policies and procedures. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

Education and Experience Required:

Level 3: Bachelors' of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related fields from an ABET-accredited college or university. A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, preferably in construction plan production, design calculations, project plan development, and technical writing. Have a focus towards leadership and delivering high quality solutions and products. Experience with Autodesk design platforms, preferably Civil3D, is a plus.

Level 4: Meets requirements of Level 3. With a minimum of nine (9) years relevant experience, preferably in construction plan production, design calculations, project plan development, and technical writing. Currently licensed as a PE (or will be eligible for licensure within 1 year) is preferred.

Business Associations:

Level 3: Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

Level 4: Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Impact:

Level 3: Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious programs delays and considerable expenditure of resources.

Level 4: Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Normally assigned to perform work in an office environment with occasional field work. Electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are anticipated. Minor hazards normally found in a northern New Mexico field data collection environment are anticipated. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline. Office and field work environment.

While working to achieve objectives, the Civil/ Structural Engineer 3/4 will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security. Ability to obtain an L level Department of Energy security clearance.
