This is a 40% Limited position for one year. This appointment may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs of the department. TRIO Outreach Programs operate five federal grant programs and serves over 800 youth in San Diego. Our mission is to increase the post secondary matriculation of low income, first generation college students. Under close supervision of higher-level K-14 Academic Preparation Specialists, uses K-14 academic preparation professional concepts and practices by working with assigned sites to implement academic preparation programs.College Advisors play a key role in helping our programs meet the target number of students served per year. College Advisors will work with low-income, ethnically diverse students in a group setting. College Advisors work at an assigned school site and call students out of class to meet with them at the school site. The goal of college advising is to ensure students are informed of and complete the college entrance requirements. College Advisors meet with 9th - 12th grade students to monitor coursework for A-G requirements, discuss college application process, review personal statement and engage in goal setting and planning for college admissions. Other topics discussed include: college entrance exams, financial aid, financial literacy, leadership, community service, internships and careers. College Advisors help remind students of upcoming community events and TRIO-related program activities. College Advisors may be asked to work collaboratively with other outreach programs, counselors at the school sites and other local area service providers. College Advisors will be asked to serve as role models and therefore will be expected to act with the utmost respect, diplomacy and tact when working in the community. College Advisors are responsible for frequent communication with their supervisors, especially as it pertains to their role in monitoring their student caseload. College Advisors will be asked to chaperone Saturday activities, which included riding the bus with students to a TRIO event location, engaging students in the activity and ensuring students are respectful on the trip. All candidates may also be asked to work in the office for clerical and administrative duties, each quarter. Monthly submission of data is required and will be strictly enforced.
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $49,400 - $82,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $23.66 - $39.37 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
