The Sr. Data Analyst, Health Equity will conduct analyses on large data sets in order to identify and evaluate potential areas of disparities. This position will provide management, the OHE department, and business partners with descriptive statistical findings, explanations, and conclusions, which will be used to create viable, real-world solutions in a complex health care landscape. This role will work across the business, applying a nimble working style to flex and understand various business and Office of Health Equity (OHE) needs, while proactively seeking out critical trends and insights to enable a pipeline of priority intervention opportunities for the OHE and business. Further, the Sr. Data Analyst will need to work with the OHE and partners from across the enterprise to access, aggregate, and analyze needed datasets. They will document best practices and necessary processes for use across the broader department and partner teams, allowing for more efficient long-term data pulls and analyses. The position is a great fit for data and analysis professionals that are energized by open-ended analyses and trends assessments, applying their own critical thinking to identify high value disparity interventions and health equity insights to our team, business partners, and the broader enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Provide nimble analytical support to the Office of Health Equity, leading development of primarily descriptive analyses across a wide array of health equity-related focus areas
  • Work closely with analysis and insight stakeholders (primarily OHE teams), ensuring comprehensive understanding of their insight needs to appropriately tailor related analyses
  • Design and develop complex data queries to create models for analyzing business opportunities and interpreting key drivers of disparities and health care trends (i.e. medical cost, utilization, etc.)
  • Work closely with data aggregation and data management teams to identify needed datasets from across the enterprise to run analyses, and partner on solutions
  • Bring disparate data together from multiple sources
  • Use data analytics to identify and gain consensus on approaches to address disparities
  • Utilize data analysis tools and techniques to interpret complex data sets, generating insights to inform decision-making, intervention focus areas, opportunities for the business
  • Synthesize analysis across different categories and initiatives
  • Review data extractions and analytics performed by others on the team and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Generate and summarize meaningful insights from analyses for stakeholders that inform opportunities for the business and OHE teams, inclusive of, but not limited to health equity-related population, journey, and condition-specific insights, disparity intervention opportunities, measurement/impact support, CBA development
  • Support and develop detailed reports, presentations, and documentation to support analysis insight delivery and stakeholder communication
  • In alignment with Office of Health Equity priorities and strategies, proactively seek health equity and health disparity trends, insights, and opportunities across the enterprise and raise to OHE teams for socialization and potential further investigation
  • Manage a log of analytics requests and work with stakeholders to assess and communicate delivery timing and feasibility of analysis
  • Support build of related analytics infrastructure to enable rapid descriptive analyses for OHE and business requested population, health equity, disparities, and other related focus areas
  • Create insight library, documenting and summarize key health equity insights from analyses for OHE and business use - including business-friendly summaries highlighting key insights and opportunities, as well as documenting for internal knowledge management libraries
  • Capture business and data requirements as needed to run related analytics and work with OHE and business partners if additional information is needed to complete related requests
  • Support OHE and enterprise value creation analyses

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics or related degree
  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare data analytics roles
  • Demonstrated intermediate or higher level of proficiency in SQL, SAS, and/or other statistical programs
  • Professional experience with MS Excel formulas, calculations, pivot tables
  • Proven excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proven solid focus on data integrity and quality assurance of work product
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business objectives into discrete analytics
  • Experience working directly with business partners to understand their needs, requirements, and delivering analysis, insights, and reporting
  • Experience communicating technical and methodological nuances to a non-technical audience
  • Experience working with numerous, large, complex datasets
  • Experience working with healthcare claims data



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with dashboarding and analytics visualization tools including Tableau and/or PowerBI
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization
  • Experience standing up new analysis, insights, reporting from scratch
  • Experience and familiarity with Snowflake technology

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Washington, Washington, D.C. Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
