Overview

Alliance Cancer Specialists, the largest community-based oncology practice in Southeastern PA, is growing our Operations team! We are seeking a full-time Medical Assistant Lead. The perfect candidate will be a compassionate, detail-oriented individual excited join our hardworking team here at Alliance. This position will primarliy be located at our Doylestown Practice and will be expected to travel within our BuxMont Division- including Sellersville and Chalfont practices.

Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures. Performs clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintaining physicians schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and Supervision:

    • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of medical assistants, providing guidance and support as needed.
    • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate updates, policies, and procedures.
    • Assist in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of medical assistants.
  2. Clinical Duties:

    • Perform routine clinical tasks such as taking patient histories, vital signs, and preparing patients for examinations.
    • Assist healthcare providers with procedures and treatments as necessary.
    • Administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers.
    • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
    • Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
    • Obtain all necessary patient records as required by the physician and verify the presence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.
    • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
    • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
    • Assist with delegated patient education including but not limited to distributing educational literature, etc.
    • Obtain blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
    • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including but not limited to, hormones and biological growth factors.
    • Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
    • Process instruments and equipment as needed.
    • Answer patient telephone calls for referral to a physician or nurse/pharmacist.
    • Phone in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
    • Schedule patient tests, procedures, and hospital admissions and schedule appointments to follow-up on receipt of test results, as applicable.
    • Assist with select pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
    • Inform physicians of patient reschedules and no-shows.
    • Obtain new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
  3. Administrative Duties:

    • Coordinate patient scheduling, ensuring optimal workflow and patient satisfaction.
    • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
    • Manage inventory of medical supplies and ensure all equipment is properly maintained.
    • Perform other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing, faxing, reception, etc., as requested by the supervisor or physician.
    • Maintain indigent drug program and sample drug program as assigned.
  4. Quality Assurance:

    • Monitor and ensure adherence to clinical protocols and best practices.
    • Implement and oversee quality improvement initiatives.
    • Address patient concerns and complaints promptly and effectively.
  5. Collaboration:

    • Work closely with healthcare providers, nursing staff, and administrative personnel to ensure seamless operations.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
  6. Professional Development:

    • Stay updated with the latest medical assistant practices and continuing education requirements.
    • Encourage and support the professional growth of team members.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants strongly preferred. Minimum five years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Current CPR certification required. Certified Medical Assistant strongly preferred. Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant
