As a successful candidate, you will: The Safety and Health Specialist is responsible to support and monitor City of Hope's Orange County Network Safety, Emergency Management, and Hazardous materials and waste programs, policies and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's policies and procedures, facilities, equipment, and physical environment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe hazards or conditions and to implement actions and safeguards. The Safety and Health Specialist will act as a proactive consultant to City of Hope Orange County Network departments to assist leaders in creating and maintaining a safe environment, free of unsafe hazards or conditions for its employees, patients and community.
- Conducts environment of care rounds/safety inspections. Perform job safety analysis to ensure all safety hazards have been appropriately addressed.
- Supports new hire and annual training for city of hope employees to assure greater safety awareness
- Assists in formulating policies, procedures, directives, protocols and manuals pertinent to safety and health for the City of Hope enterprise in partnership and alignment with the enterprise Occupational Safety and Health department.
- Provides quarterly reports to the City of Hopes' Enterprise Occupational Safety and Health Department's Environment of Care committee.
- Suspends and reports activities that pose threats to workers health or safety.
- Provides consultation to departments on methods of effective safety management and accident prevention.
- Evaluates hazard levels at various COH locations and advises on methods of abatement.
- Conducts and supports employee Fit Testing, Hearing conservation, and personal exposure monitoring and training.
- Responds to employee complaints and investigates for purposes of identifying the hazards.
- Performs ergonomic evaluations. Provides recommendations and writes reports of findings. Follows up with employees to assess improvements.
- Conducts accident investigations to determine cause for the purpose of preventing a recurrence in partnership and alignment with the enterprise Occupational Safety and Health department.
- Assist in the planning, coordination and execution emergency drills in partnership and alignment with the enterprise Occupational Safety and Health and Office of Emergency Management.
- Actively supports and responds to emergency management related events not limited to i.e. fire response, hazardous spills, evacuations, training and drills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
- Two to three years of experience in health & safety or ergonomics field preferably in hospital and research organizations
- Current CA driver's license and a good driving record for insurance purposes
