Position Summary: The Community Outreach Ministries Director is responsible for leadership, oversight, development, and improvement of assigned ministry activities to the general community, including supervision of staff and volunteers. This position also involves building relationships that bridge community members into the corps' church fellowship and discipleship programs.

Essential Responsibilities

Mission Alignment: The Community Outreach Ministries Director will help carry out The Salvation Army's mission to serve and meet community needs with compassion and inclusivity.

Role Summary: In this leadership role, the director will plan, oversee, and expand community-focused programs, events, and services while providing direct supervision and support to staff and volunteers. This position requires fostering relationships that bridge individuals into The Salvation Army's discipleship and fellowship programs.

Key Responsibilities:



  1. Community Engagement & Program Leadership:


    • Develop and lead community outreach events and programs, in collaboration with corps leadership.
    • Oversee and enhance programs like Emergency Disaster Services, seasonal camps, and midweek gatherings.
    • Implement strategies to engage and integrate participants into church fellowship and discipleship activities.


  2. Relationship Building & Evangelism:


    • Actively engage in outreach events, social services follow-ups, and networking to deepen community ties.
    • Attend Sunday worship services and small groups to support participant integration into church life.


  3. Team Oversight & Development:


    • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and program leaders.
    • Coordinate staff, manage schedules, and ensure safety and program quality.


  4. Collaboration & Reporting:


    • Work closely with corps officers and leadership for program alignment.
    • Maintain accurate program statistics and provide regular reports to local groups, councils, and at staff development meetings.


  5. Additional Support:


    • Assist with administrative tasks, promote divisional events, and provide seasonal program support.



Supervisory Duties:



  • Supervise assigned staff and volunteers, monitor work quality, manage timecards, and participate in staff lifecycle activities.


This position is ideal for someone with strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills who is passionate about outreach and community engagement within a Christian ministry context.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2+ years working in a ministry-related field
  • At least 1+ years of experience working directly with children in a structured environment
  • Additional experience working with older adults preferred


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:



  • Must demonstrate an active faith in Jesus Christ, as well as ongoing personal spiritual development
  • Ability to teach and lead people of all ages
  • Demonstrated acceptance of cultural, racial, and economic diversity
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Flexibility in work schedule that will include office hours and some evenings and weekends, including attending and participating in worship services on Sundays.
  • Extensive prior knowledge of and experience in Salvation Army programs and ministries preferred


Computer Skills:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed
  • Experience using other electronic methods to aid in communication with program participants


Certificates and Licenses:



  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Current valid driver's license, at least chauffer level, with clear record to pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR).
  • Must have ability to drive a 12-passenger van.
  • Willingness to learn to drive a school bus preferred. (Must either already have a CDL with passenger endorsement or be physically able to obtain after hire.)
