Role Needs: This is a campus-based position and needs an on-campus presence. Schedule will be determined by student needs, typically falling between 8AM and 6PM, and could include evening or weekend hours.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree. Master's degree in higher education, counseling or related field is preferred.
- Multiple years of relevant, student support experience.
- Knowledge of SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)
- Ability to manager sensitive and challenging issues and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and empathetic communication with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
- Hold a deep understanding and appreciation of a multicultural student population.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to assist students in resolving academic and personal challenges by connecting them with appropriate resources and support services.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Advise students - including but not limited to: academic issues, including program and course offerings; having out of classroom issues that are impacting academic success, discuss options and pros/cons of options; provide guidance to assist students with decision-making.
- Answer student questions and resolve basic issues related to bookstore validation and eBook use.
- Complete and maintain student scheduling and course revisions per University standards.
- Having gained a comprehensive understanding of the registration process and program pre-requisites, provide guidance to students on scheduling changes and process those changes in the system.
- Work in collaboration with faculty/staff/administration to assist students who are experiencing personal or academic concerns to find appropriate solutions.
- Communicate to students regarding semester/term start preparation.
- Communicate with new incoming students through welcome calls to discuss schedule and potential obstacles to provide resources and/or solutions.
- Enter updates into University platforms on all engagement and communication with students.
- Prepare materials for and conduct new student orientations on how to access & navigate University platforms and bookstore validation. Inform students of resources and contact information for the Tutoring and Writing Center and Library.
- Communicate and negotiate with inter- and intra- department personnel to resolve student issues.
- This position may take on additional administration duties as needed to support the campus
