S&ME is looking for a driven and enthusiastic Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our Construction Services team in Nashville, TN.

As a Construction Materials Testing Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality of construction materials and processes, contributing to the success of a wide variety of projects. Whether in the lab or out in the field, you'll leverage your expertise and technology to provide accurate and reliable results while collaborating with a dedicated team.



Your Day-to-Day

  • Inspect and Evaluate: Perform inspections and testing on construction materials like soil, concrete, and asphalt, ensuring compliance with project plans and industry standards.
  • Data Management: Use tools like Metafield to record field observations, track test results, and generate detailed reports.
  • Maintain Precision: Keep field and laboratory equipment in top condition and calibrated to deliver reliable results.
  • Collaborate on Projects: Work closely with contractors, clients, and management to resolve challenges and achieve project goals.
  • Embrace Variety: Tackle a mix of fieldwork, laboratory tasks, and direct interaction with project stakeholders.



What You Bring

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in construction material testing or inspection OR equivalent training/education (vocational training or an associate degree).
  • A strong understanding of technical math concepts like weight, volume, and pressure.
  • A proficiency in data entry and software tools for recording results.
  • A certification (or more!) such as:

    • ACI Field Testing Technician - Grade I
    • DOT Certifications in Aggregate, Asphalt, Concrete, or Density


  • A passion for hands-on problem-solving and building relationships in the field.



Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Work outdoors year-round in varied weather conditions.
  • Navigate uneven terrain and construction sites safely.
  • Stand and move for up to 8-12 hours a day.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Travel overnight as needed to project locations.
  • Perform tasks with proper Personal Protective Equipment provided by the company.
