THE JOB:

As a Sommelier at Carbone, you will be entrusted with an in-depth understanding of our extensive wine list and the art of wine and food pairing. Your role is pivotal in crafting an exceptional dining experience, starting with your warm and inviting demeanor. By engaging with guests and understanding their unique preferences and stories, you will create WOW moments that will make their visit unforgettable and leave them with cherished memories.

THE STARTING RATE: $14.9785 plus tips

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Maintain complete knowledge of wine list, and wine and food pairing

  • Collect money, while following all proper cash handling and comp procedures

  • Clean equipment, tools, and supplies and ensure equipment is in good working order, including cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of work station

  • Maintain and update cellar/storage inventory according to set pars and internal controls, and request product to maintain stock in designated area

  • Meet regularly with the wine trade to actively seek quality winesfor the restaurant wine program as well as evaluate wines and other beverage for potential purchase

  • Eliminate waste by training and supervising employees on wine knowledge, pour levels, proper storage, etc

  • Verify accuracy of wine delivery ordered and received from the main warehouse and return or exchange deliveries when a warehouse error has occurred

  • Maintain appropriate beverage costs by managing purchases and requisitions; place wine requisitions at the end of each service

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • At least one year of prior experience in similar role with wine knowledge and certification as a Sommelier

  • Prior experience in fine dining or similar environment

  • Sommeliercertification from Court of Master Sommeliers, Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), National Wine School

  • Passionate about providing excellent customer service and proper service techniques

  • Proficient in wine and alcohol, as well as food pairing

  • Emphasis on Italian wine knowledge

  • Knowledge of beverages on menu, including characteristics of wine and champagne by the glass; major wines, designated glassware, terminology, and garnishes

  • Motivated and willing to train team members using your wine knowledge and certification

  • Experience with wine inventory management and ordering processes

  • Knowledge of various Point of Sale (POS) devices

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent education

  • Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
