Assistant Teaching Professor Position in Health & Society

The Department of Health & Society in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in Health and Society starting in September 2025. The successful candidate may teach courses such as Introduction to Health & Society, and upper-level courses in their area of specialization related to health. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position with primary responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate classroom and online instruction, undergraduate advising, and university service. Faculty will teach a 4:4 load during the academic year. Initial appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal and continuous appointment.

UMass Dartmouth is in the beautiful ocean side community of Dartmouth, about an hour south of Boston, half-hour east of Providence, and half-hour west of Cape Cod. It offers a world class education to undergraduate and graduate students each year in over 40 undergraduate and 23 graduate programs offered by the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, Charlton College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Law and School for Marine Science and Technology.

Duties

It is expected the successful candidate will be an engaging and effective teacher with a strong commitment to student learning and success. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Health & Society; implementing inclusive and evidence-based teaching and learning approaches to ensure the academic success of a diverse population of students; advising majors; collaborating with faculty to enhance curriculum; providing academic advising; and participating in university service activities. Responsibilities include teaching four classes in the Fall semesters, and four classes in Spring semesters. The faculty will also provide needed advising support for majors.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Ph.D. in public health or discipline related to health or a closely related field at the time of employment
  • Experience with college level teaching
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence as well as diversity and inclusion
  • Be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis


Preferred Qualifications



  • Documented success in teaching at the college level
  • Demonstrated experience in efforts to increase the recruitment and retention of women and members of historically minoritized groups in allied health fields
  • The successful candidate will join a program dedicated to the use of curriculum that is responsive to the students it serves and be expected to provide effective instruction and advising to a diverse population of students


The ideal candidate will have a well-established records of excellence in undergraduate teaching, and are interested in contributing to our program's mission of fostering inquiries into structures and modes of power as they are mediated by gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, class, caste, nation and citizenship, age and ability with a vision of critical engagement with reducing health inequity
