Lead EMT/Dispatcher - Medical Transportation

Responsibilities:

This position requires assessment, coordination, and prioritization of care of a patient prior to, during, and after HPMT staff arrival. Responsibilities include leading the day-to-day operations of the department including dispatching crews to requests for transportation. Communicating with other medical staff, EMS and police personnel, as necessary, and observing, participating and managing overall patient care to facilitate care and resolve issues or potential problems as needed.

The Lead EMT/Dispatcher will provide work direction to EMTs; providing a safe environment; coordinate, communicate, interpret, and explain patient care services to the patient, family, EMS personnel and health professionals; if certified as an EMT or Paramedic, the Lead EMT/Dispatcher will perform and document dependent functions such as carrying out EMS Medical Directors medical orders and performing diagnostic and treatment procedures.

The Lead EMT/Dispatcher may be responsible for reviewing each day's transports in the ePCR system for accuracy of demographic and clinical documentation. The Lead EMT/Dispatcher will also directly supervise EMT staff and will participate in the annual performance evaluation process.

If certified as an EMT or Paramedic, when acting as an EMT/Paramedic crew member, they will determine the most appropriate and safest way of transporting patient to the destination. The Lead EMT/Dispatcher will demonstrate safe driving skills and communicate with dispatch and/or receiving facility in a professional manner. The Lead EMT/Dispatcher will accurately document patient care in the approved ePCR system.

Qualifications:

Education:



  • High school diploma or GED.


Experience:



  • One year of clinical or dispatch experience in an emergency and/or non-emergency medical setting
  • Or one year of dispatch or call taking experience
  • Or a combination of these categories totaling one year required.


Licensure/Certification:



  • EMT, or Paramedic, certified in the State of MN
  • Or EMD certification through the IAED, APCO or similar must be obtained within 6 months of start date.
  • EMD certification through the IAED, APCO or similar must be obtained within 6 months of start date if hired with EMT or Paramedic certification.
  • Current AHA BLS Healthcare provider certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Will be required to complete all EMT (BLS Provider) or EMD competencies and applicable endorsements as outlined in the Office of the EMS Medical Director's Credentialing Manual within 6 months of hire (tracked in department).
  • Will be required to complete all MN DOT required Specialized Transportation Services (STS) training within 3 months of hire.
  • Possesses a current driver's license with a clean driving record containing no more than 2 moving violations in the last 2 year period.



If EMT or Paramedic:



  • Will be required to complete all MN DOT required Specialized Transportation Services (STS) training within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a current driver's license with a minimum of 1 year of driving experience with a clean driving record containing no more than 2 moving violations in the last 2 year period.



Must meet MN DOT STS Driver requirements:



  • Drug free
  • Clean driving record
  • Clear criminal background
  • Passenger Assistance, Maltreatment Awareness, Defensive Driving, and basic first aid trained/certified
  • Pass DOT physical examination
