Schedule: Day Shift (Associate will be subject to an on-call rotation-currently one week of on-call every ten weeks). GENERAL SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, responsible and accountable for all preventive maintenance, repair and installation of all types of hospital medical equipment. Responsibilities: Maintains, repairs and installs hospital medical equipment and systems. Has a working knowledge of the operation, underlying physiological principles, and the practical and safe clinical application of patient care equipment.| Troubleshoots and calibrates electronic devices. Possesses in-depth knowledge of applicable safety and performance standards and hazards associated with biomedical instrumentation, equipment and systems.| Assures that all installations are in conformance with manufacturers specifications.| Performs preventive maintenance on all medical equipment and systems according to departmental schedules. Keeps a sufficient inventory of spare parts on hand to maintain the hospital medical equipment and systems.| Responds to emergency calls from critical areas in a timely manner.| Receives assignments and work orders to maintain and repair all types of biomedical instrumentation such as, but not limited to, defibrillators, monitors, ECG units, suction devices, circulating fluid pumps and other equipment. Reviews work orders for priority status and designated time schedules. Reads and interprets schematic diagrams and specifications. Orders materials and supplies; prepares and assembles materials, test equipment, supplies for work to be performed. While working on hardwired electronic equipment, performs ?lock out, tag out? procedures per departmental policy.| Maintains all required records and documents relative to preventive and corrective maintenance activities, including hazard alerts and updates. Maintains appropriate operator?s manuals, technical documents and schematics. Completes all work orders in a timely, legible manner in order that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained.| Applies cost-effective measures in order to improve efficiency and supports cost containment efforts while delivering a high quality service. Works with medical equipment manufacturers on repairs and identifies components needed to maintain equipment. Provides ?Values-Added? customer service consistent with hospital goals and policy.| Keeps work area clean, orderly and safe. Assures proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.| Demonstrate safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and department safety programs. Improve patient safety in the delivery of health care by understanding and applying the patient safety goal for SJPHS/Ascension of no preventable deaths of injuries.| Interacts occasionally with manufacturers? technical and sales support people, either directly or via the internet.| Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:| Ability to work with powered and hand-held equipment| Ability to work with hazardous equipment| Ability to utilize digital and analog oscilloscopes, function generators, and patient simulation/ test equipment| Ability to work in hazardous patient care environments (wet locations, anesthetizing locations, isolation (positive or negative pressure rooms), etc. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Cooperative or internship in Hospital or other medical equipment support activities, preferred, or 1 year in-Hospital experience, working with medical equipment-related support activities required.
