A-Team Solutions LLC is seeking Histotechnologist for possible full time contract position at the VA Hospital. Contractors can be travel or local, start would be upon approval and credentialing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties of the Histopathology Technician/Technologist include, but are not limited to: a. Independently maintains, troubleshoots, and operates automated and semi-automated instrumentation in a histology/immunohistochemistry laboratory within the Anatomic Pathology section and function as a resource for the Pathologist.

b. Accession, process, prepare, cut and stain tissues from surgical procedures, bone marrows, frozen sections, and cytological specimens.

c. Advise physicians about optimum fixation/immunofixation techniques to be employed for a given type of specimen and disease process.

d. Accession specimens ensuring specimen integrity, adequacy of documentation and identification, process in order of clinical urgency and ensure specimens are turned around within required timeframes.

e. Prepares a wide variety of tissue specimens from all parts of the human body.

f. Prepares various chemical solutions and stains adjusting concentrations and PH as determined by good laboratory practice.

g. Perform microtomy for frozen sections with use of cryostat sectioning which requires many complex and delicate processes.

h. Makes serial sections of anatomical tissues requiring precise complex positioning of the tissue and microtome using in depth knowledge of human tissue and organs.

i. Prepares tissues for a wide variety of special procedures and complex special stains, including immunohistochemical processes.

j. Perform quality control checks of instrument function on a regular basis and keep documents denoting malfunctions and corrective actions taken. Specialized training and certification by the manufacturer of the instruments may be required of the incumbent.

k. Facilitate enhanced communication between surgical pathology, hematology/oncology, dermatology, GI, and surgical services or any other physicians or clinics needing immediate contact with the histology laboratory.

l. Assist in the development, review, and/or update of technical procedures in the Anatomic Pathology section of the laboratory in accordance with regulatory agency and VA guidelines/standards.

m. Organizes/maintains tissue block, specimen, and slide storage.

n. The Supervisory Medical Technologist and/or Chief, P&LMS shall monitor performance through direct observation as well as seek input from other Pathology & Laboratory Medicine staff (pathologists, technologist & administrative staff). Quality of work shall be monitored on an on-going, daily basis.

o. The Contracting Officer Representative (COR), or his/her designee shall be responsible for monitoring contract compliance and for verifying that services called for under the contract attested to by the Contractor have been received.

Requirements:

Histopathology Technicians/Technologists performing services for the Contractor under this contract shall be certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as an HT or HTL or have a combination of documented education and/or experience to perform the tasks to be described.
