ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:



  • Provide leadership and technical direction to ensure packaging designs meet product safety requirements, conform to product efficacy design standards and satisfy customer and business requirements while complying with government regulations and corporate policies.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership with respect to the development of packaging design, materials development and respective manufacturing methodologies to ensure packaging is functional, economical and technically feasible.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for the commercialization of new products and packaging materials and related processes. This includes serving as a liaison between Facility Manufacturing, Product Development and Global Engineering to ensure compatibility between product design and process capability; developing and leading materials trials in manufacturing; developing and conducting the appropriate test methods; and developing technical systems required to meet business objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership, expertise and analysis in resolving process and packaging material quality issues. This includes effectively communicating with packaging suppliers to resolve quality issues in a timely manner and working with manufacturing facilities to develop in-process control procedures, performing capability analysis and developing process centerlines.
  • Provide leadership for the development, standardization and maintaining of packaging engineering documentation systems including building documentation for writing specifications and creating technical drawings of package components using Artios CAD software.
  • Provide leadership and coordination to drive global continuous improvement for all packaging materials on existing product lines to improve the best net value for Rockline, environmental impact and cost.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of plastic packaging materials, material manufacturing processes, relevant tooling and converting processes in support of business initiatives.
  • Provide packaging engineering consultation to manufacturing facilities and business units in a timely manner as required.
  • Participate in customer presentations and customer meetings to assure customer alignment and successful packaging implementation for product packages that contain, protect, display and facilitate ease of use by the end consumer.
  • Communicate fully with seniors, subordinates, and others who have the need to know. Communications should be prompt, complete, candid and clear.

Qualification Requirements for Engineer III level (paygrade 12):



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging Engineering from an accredited university plus a minimum of seven (7) years' experience of practical application with manufacturing interaction.
  • Packaging experience with the following materials and processes: flexible films & bags, labels, and corrugated boxes.
  • Strong analytical skills with capability to utilize advanced statistical applications and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate utilizing written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be well organized with demonstrated ability to lead, support and participate in multiple projects and tasks concurrently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office, MS project, TOPS, and Artios CAD.
  • Capacity to enhance education and technical skills.
  • Ability to obtain a passport and to travel domestically and internationally.


Qualification Requirements for Engineer IV level (paygrade 13):



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging Engineering or relevant engineering or scientific degree from an accredited university plus a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience of practical application with manufacturing interaction.
  • Demonstrable understanding of substrate and solution types to the extent that they affect product attributes and impact packing design.
  • Packaging experience with the following materials and processes: flexible films & bags, labels, and corrugated boxes; must have a strong technical background in packaging engineering.
  • Strong analytical skills with capability to utilize advanced statistical applications and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate utilizing written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Must be well organized with demonstrated ability to lead, support and participate in multiple projects and tasks concurrently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office, MS project, TOPS, and Artois CAD. Capacity to enhance education and technical skills.
  • Ability to obtain a passport and to travel domestically and internationally. Ability to travel, up to 30%, required.

  • Occasional lifting up to 35 lbs.

  • Work environment includes occasional noise >85db, hot and cold temperatures.
  • Requires ability to read, write, calculate and analyze.
  • Requires good visual acuity with depth perception and color vision.
