This role can be remote or hybrid in our DC or TX office.

The GIS Intellectual Property & Distribution Department, charged with distributing API's vast catalog of oil and gas technical standards, has launched its Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) Initiative. This Initiative provides internships and makes API's best-in-class standards freely accessible to students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The MSI initiative aims to develop and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across the industry workforce by providing API resources to students at participating universities.

Projects and Tasks

  • Fulfill tasks set out by supervisors from several departments
  • Attend meetings and take minutes
  • Perform research at a supervisor's request
  • Perform clerical duties, take memos, maintain files, and organize documents; photocopy, fax, etc. as needed
  • Assist in preparing information and research materials; create and maintain PowerPoint presentations
  • Manage databases and input information, data, and records
  • Research and gather documentation on company position in the industry
  • Set up, break down, organize, and maintain conference rooms, training rooms, and meeting rooms; update company calendars
  • Attend company functions and networking events

Qualifications

  • The intern shall be enrolled in secondary school participating in API's Minority Serving Institutions program
  • Working knowledge of the oil, gas, and petroleum industries
  • Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to exercise experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Familiarity with database technology and MS Office applications required
  • Proficient with the English language
  • Eager to learn and work with various departments in the company
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • High school degree or equivalent; must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program to receive credit
  • Must be 18 years of age

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25%
