Description

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Legal Intern will work closely with Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington DC's ("PPMW") legal and compliance department, as well as the Public Affairs department as needed, to perform complex legal research, writing, policy analysis, and audits.

This is a part-time internship (with approximately 25-30 hours of work expected per week). Course credit may be obtained by arrangement with individual law schools. For students who are not receiving course credit or other funding for their internship, PPMW will provide a stipend. This position will be remote with occasional in-person meetings. The internship will go from June 2025 to early August 2025. Preference to candidates for this role who reside in the Washington, D.C. area.

Requirements

  • Learn about the practice of law in a non-profit organization setting with a focus on healthcare advocacy and operations
  • Learn to differentiate between the regulatory requirements and operations of a 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organization
  • Practice legal skills such as legal research, legal writing, and drafting policies, procedures, and policy white papers
  • Conduct legal research across a wide variety of substantive areas related to healthcare and reproductive justice matters such as AI, privacy, nonprofit compliance, Medicare compliance, and other matters with federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory bodies
  • Producing high-quality written communication for different constituencies both internal and external to the organization
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned
  • Enrolled in law school and actively pursuing a J.D. with at least 1 year of law school complete
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An interest in policy and legal advocacy preferably within healthcare space
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based application

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in law school and actively pursuing a J.D. with at least 1 year of law school complete
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An interest in policy and legal advocacy preferably within healthcare space
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications
