Job description

Duties of the Job:

  • Trains apprentices and others as required.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools to fabricate or repair mill equipment.
  • Assists other crafts in assembling and/or disassembling mill equipment.
  • Machines parts to close tolerance.
  • Weld, solder, cut, and heat as required.
  • Fabricates or duplicates parts from prints, sketch, blueprint or existing part.
  • Performs blacksmith duties as required.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications

OnTheJob Requirements

  • Lift 50100 lbs. regularly, e.g., lathe chucks, metal parts, etc.
  • Climb and work in high places occasionally to take measurements.
  • Do considerable amount of reaching, pulling, pushing and twisting.
  • Stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Learn to operate and use power equipment, e.g., lathe, milling machine, variety of measuring instruments, etc.
  • Read blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Be able to respond to call-ins, work shift work, overtime, Sundays and holidays as required. A company telephone is provided.
Personal qualities

Qualifications

  • Must have completed an Indentured Machinist Apprenticeship program or equivalent.
  • Must be able to lift 50100 lbs. regularly.
  • Must not be allergic to chemicals or materials used in a mill environment.
  • Have a valid Wisconsin driver's license and be able to drive.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have completed a two-year diploma in Machine Tool Operation or equivalent education.
  • Evaluations will be made on an individual basis.
