Project Archaeologist Principal Investigator - North Central Texas
Halff is seeking a Project Archaeologist Principal Investigator (PI) based out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, to join our talented team of cultural resources professionals and manage projects in the north central Texas region. The qualified candidate must meet the Secretary of Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation and professional qualification requirements for Principal Investigator (13 Texas Administrative Code 26.4), have no prior Texas Antiquities Permits in default, hold a master's degree in Anthropology/Archaeology and have a minimum of 5 years of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) experience as a PI in Texas. What you will do:


  • Supervise on archeological surveys, including those with backhoe trenching
  • Perform National Register of Historic Places and/or State Antiquities Landmark eligibility evaluations of archeological sites,
  • Report writing and the management of projects from start to finish
  • Split time between conducting client/agency coordination, archeological surveys, technical writing and managing CRM projects as a PI with minimum supervision
  • Consult with project sponsors and state/federal regulatory agencies
  • Conduct background research and obtain Antiquities permits
  • Write scopes of work and conduct/Manage field work
  • Interpret archeological data and author reports
  • Engage with existing and potential clients to foster repeat and new business.


What you will need:


  • Master's Degree in Anthropology with focus in Archaeology
  • Minimum of 5 years of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) experience as a Principal Investigator (PI) in Texas
  • Thorough understanding of historic preservation laws and policies
  • Demonstrable experience managing archeological surveys, including those with backhoe trenching, and testing projects
  • General knowledge of geoarchaeological soil profile description
  • Experience using ArcGIS mapping and GPS technology
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Capable of walking for long periods of time over unfamiliar terrain, excavating shovel tests and test units, screening soil, carrying field equipment, and leading field crews
  • Stooping, bending, lifting, and walking in a variety of conditions and over unfamiliar terrain
  • Must be motivated and able to work safely with minimum supervision
  • Must have a desire to grow within the company and help expand the CRM practice in Texas and neighboring states
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Strong organizational skills
