Overview

#CAES by #Honeywell is seeking a seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior PCB Designer to join our dynamic "Wizardry" engineering team in San Jose. In this role, you will be a critical contributor to the development of complex, high-reliability microwave subsystems. You'll collaborate closely with RF, Digital, Mechanical, and Process Engineers, taking ownership of the PCB design process from initial concept through final documentation and release. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Lead PCB Design & Layout: Translate complex engineering requirements into high-quality PCB layouts using PADS CAD software. This includes creating schematics, optimizing part placement, performing high-speed routing, and implementing design verification checks.
  • Collaborative Design: Work closely with RF, Digital, Mechanical, and Process Engineers to ensure PCB designs meet all electrical, mechanical, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Stack-up Management: Develop and manage complex layer stack-ups utilizing various board materials (e.g., FR4, Rogers, Arlon) to optimize performance and signal integrity, interfacing with PCB vendors as needed.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Ensure designs are manufacturable, working with Process Engineers to optimize for assembly and yield.
  • Comprehensive Documentation: Create and maintain complete documentation packages, including fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and ECOs, within the company's PLM system.
  • Component Library Management: Maintain and manage the PADS Parts Library, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve design challenges, including tight space constraints, high-frequency signal routing, and complex via structures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve design processes and contribute to the growth of the design team.
  • Early-Stage Fit Checks: Perform rapid fit checks on PCB layouts to ensure proper mating of mechanical and electrical components during the initial stages of the design.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent technical education, along with 4+ years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience designing and laying out complex PCBs using PADS CAD software (or equivalent high-end PCB design software).
  • Demonstrated expertise in multi-layer board design, including experience with high-frequency RF circuits, power supply circuits, and various via types (buried, blind).
  • Deep understanding of PCB materials and stack-ups, particularly with RF and FR4 materials (e.g., Rogers, Arlon).
  • Strong working knowledge of PCB fabrication and assembly processes and IPC standards.
  • Experience with CAM350 (or equivalent) software for Gerber verification.
  • Some knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).
  • The ability to gain and maintain Active Secret Clearance.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent technical education, along with 6+ years of related experience.
  • CAD Software Skills: Working knowledge of AutoCAD or DraftSight.
  • Some basic knowledge of SolidWorks.
  • Understanding of electronics packaging and experience in thermal management, in addition to some basic knowledge of RF circuit principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous approach to PCB design with a focus on high quality and precision.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical information to diverse audiences.

Salary Range (hourly rate): Designer IV: $50.00-$60.00 (San Jose) and Designer V: $58.00-$70.00 (San Jose) Designer IV: $34.00-$48.00 (Colorado Springs) and Designer V: $44.00-$65.00 (Colorado Springs). Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
