Job Summary

The Applications Engineer will be responsible for supporting/leading the execution of Sales order fulfillment for power generation and propulsion systems driven by prime movers that include diesel/gas engines). The main focus of the Applications Engineer is the integration of our products into the customer's application whether it's a Vessel or a Building. The Applications Engineer will be expected to take a project from conception through design and testing to onsite commissioning and all the necessary documentation on the way. Will also be responsible for inspecting and testing electrical and mechanical systems (Cooling, fuel, ventilation, and anything else needed for our equipment to function as per design), identifying hazards and defects, and determining the need for adjustment or repairs.

Travel: Up to 25% travel required

STI: This position is eligible for an annual bonus (STI) of up to 00% of the yearly salary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Working at a level that needs no supervision, with the ability to handle the following tasks in a lead/supervisory engineer role.

  • Managing complex applications from start to completion
  • Managing complex site applications from start to completion utilizing PPG and third-party resources to meet the objective of delivering a system on time and on budget.
  • Develop supervisory skills
  • Supervising and developing junior engineers/field service engineers on specific tasks
  • Act as a specialist applications engineer in a consultant role (subject matter expert)
  • Developing Standards and Process to Move PPG Engineering Forward
  • Take responsibility for being a product champion inside PPG on multiple products and applications
  • Developing Engine Applications
  • Developing Power Management Applications
  • Planning and preparation of work scope.
  • Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Testing, and repairing electrical circuits and electronic components.
  • Troubleshooting problems with electrical machinery, systems, and components.
  • Installing new or replacing electrical and electronic components of electrical/electronic equipment and systems.
  • Designing, and testing of integrated systems for engine safety controls on board and land-based applications.
  • Directing engineering personnel in the fabrication of test control apparatuses and equipment
  • Determine procedures for testing products and electrical/electronic systems.
  • Evaluating operational systems and recommending design modifications to eliminate the cause of malfunctions or changes in systems requirements.
  • Creating correct parts orders according to OEM standards.
  • Organizing and arranging additional supplies on site.
  • Ensuring that required documentation and materials, equipment, and tools are available at the work site.
  • Maintaining documentation of manuals, descriptions, and electrical/electronic drawings.
  • Reporting work scope, all activities, findings, and conditions with documentation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and MSHS-ISO standards.
  • Accomplishing goals in accordance with company strategies and leadership competencies.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Engine/ Generator /Vessel and Switchgear Controls and integration.
  • Automation Control Systems and Instrumentation experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office business software, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Demonstrated self-starting ability with good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (in English a must, spanish would be a plus).
  • Willing and able to travel, domestically and internationally.
  • Knowledge or previous experience with MTU, Detroit Deisel, and Volvo Penta is a Plus.
Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering or 5 years relevant work experience in Marine Propulsion Systems or 5 years relevant work experience in power generation, industrial automation,or related industry.
  • Valid US Driving Licence.
  • Valid Passport

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, printers, and scanners.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands or fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to stand for long periods and be comfortable with kneeling, stooping, and working in cramped and uncomfortable positions is required.
  • Should be prepared to twist and turn the body often and must be open to working outdoors in various weather conditions.
