The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Discovery Oncology

Department Summary

We have a summer internship opening for a talented and motivated candidate in the Department of Discovery Oncology at Genentech. In Discovery oncology, we are passionate about conducting the most impactful research with the goal of identifying and developing novel drug targets and improving patients' lives. In our group, we are interested in understanding mechanisms of transcriptional mis-regulation in cancer. The internship project will center around mechanisms of drug resistance using molecular/cellular biology techniques. While the candidate will be working in a laboratory environment, there will be opportunities to learn or utilize computational approaches.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Design and execute experiments independently or in collaboration with staff scientists.

  • Interpret and communicate results in small groups or in department presentation forums.

  • Maintain accurate, detailed and timely records using an electronic notebook.

  • Participate in Genentech internship program activities and events.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Participate in Genentech internship program events and activities

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful research projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented scientists in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required Majors: Cell/Molecular/Cancer Biology, Pharmacology, Genetics, Biochemistry or related disciplines.

Required Skills

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture.

  • Research experience in cell biology/biochemistry/molecular biology lab environment.

  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques such as PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and/or immunoblots.

  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Experience in biochemistry techniques such as Co-IP, molecular engineering, and/or qRT-PCR is desirable.

  • Experience in cell-based assays is desirable.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location ofCalifornia is $40.00-$45. hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
