US Synthetic, a ChampionX company, has an immediate need for an Engineer I located in Orem, UT. The Engineer I will work cross-functionally on High Velocity Edge Team (HVE), Value Stream Team (VST) or Functional Engineering Team

Specifically: Problem Solving: Use PDCA method to solve problems, Functional Expertise: Be able to complete work autonomously in functional discipline, Learn and use Lean Manufacturing and Product Development principles to continuously improve the way work is done. Design opportunities will include hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems for current and future processes in the production of PDC cutters.

What You Will Do:

  • Work on projects with a wide variety of disciplines such as controls, instrumentation, machine design and manufacturing process development
  • Use strong methods in mechanical design (i.e. solid modeling, DFMEA, SMED, stress and fatigue analysis etc.)
  • Work at GEMBA (where the work is done, i.e. manufacturing floor) to better see and solve problems
  • Document all aspects of machine design including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and safety systems
  • Design data acquisition systems for root cause analysis for production part and machine component failures
  • Assist maintenance with diagnosing down machines on production floor. Train maintenance on good methods for finding root cause in these situations
  • Provide training in mechanical, electrical, control, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and overall operation of machines
  • Evaluate machinery and processes to help diagnose problems such as yields, throughput, costs, etc.
  • Participate on cross functional teams to eliminate waste and continually improve the process, product quality and equipment
  • Utilize lean manufacturing and product development principles in all processes and product changes
  • Evaluate completed projects and validate conformance to US Synthetic specifications and standards (i.e. functional, safety, tact time, foot print, robustness, ROI etc.)
  • Programming of Programmable Logic Controller's (PLC), Human Machine Interface's (HMI), and Drives
  • Use mill, lathe and hand tools to build, assemble, and prototype designs
  • Use PDCA method to solve problems

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical preferred or equivalent
  • years of engineering experience
  • High school diploma/GED is required
  • Immigration sponsorship not available for this role

Physical Demands:

  • Moderate noise
  • Safety equipment (Safety Glasses)
  • Occasionally lift up to 50lbs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge on machine shop practices, methods and procedures
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to speak in front of technical peers
  • Working toward a Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Ability to effectively utilize DOE training
  • Self-starter
  • Able to read, create and modify technical drawings and 3-D models
  • Mechanical aptitude including pneumatic, mechanical, servo, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Ability to lead and participate in cross-functional teams
  • Able to work with others for the purpose of training and instructing production personnel following the job instruction method (TWI)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Proficient with statistical analyzing software, i.e. Minitab, JMP, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible shift hours when need arises
  • Solid Modeling Pro-E knowledge
  • Labview Programming
  • RSLogix 5000 Programming
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, application and implementation
  • Patience
  • Understand and analyze testing and metallurgical data
  • Problem solving skills
  • Willing to be trained
  • Capable of maintaining a neat workplace (5S)
