Overview

Veeco's Boise, Idaho, client location is seeking a technically sound applications engineer to help develop and research new applications. Veeco is well-positioned with great teams, core technologies, and a strong entrepreneurial culture that supports new product development. The main objective of this role is to develop new applications, support customer requests, and develop new products. The application engineer will also discover new opportunities for Veeco to add value either through new product development or existing product enhancements around our core technology. In this role, the applications engineer interfaces with customers, consultants, marketing, sales, service, manufacturing and supply chain.

Responsibilities



  • Engages closely with customer to develop applications and process performance on ion beam systems; drives relevant ion beam learning and demos needed to applications development.
  • Develops and maintains best known methods (BKM) for process control, process development and continuous improvement. Drive adoption of BKMs and new applications.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of ion beam systems process, hardware and relevant diagnostics; Plans, implements and controls measures to enhance system performance.
  • Solves process problems in straightforward situations and when needed, reaches out to service and engineering teams and drive to solutions.
  • Presents technical aspects of products to customers and sales channels.
  • Provides on-the-job training, education and assistance to fellow team members both within the local team, company, and for customers and partners.
  • Works as a member of a cross-functional team with service and sales personnel and the product, marketing and engineering teams for company product lines to support revenue requirements.
  • Communicates and participates in technical trainings regularly to enhance the professional knowledge and to gather up-to-date product line information.
  • Checks and approves operational quality of system equipment.Instructs customers in the operation and maintenance of the system.



Qualifications

BS degree and at least 5 years of related experience in thin film technologies or related equipment, or an MS degree in engineering, physics or chemistry and at least 3 years of related experience, or a PhD degree is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. At least 2 years of experience with customer support or management is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Semiconductor device knowledge and module process, process integration experience in logic and/or memory fabrication preferred.
  • Understanding of thin film deposition process and hardware is desirable.
  • A positive team player, self-motivated with strong analytical skills.
  • Clear communication, good spoken and written communication skills
  • Occasional travel to Veeco's corporate office in Plainview, New York

The expected salary range for this position is $93,455 - $118,377, plus bonus opportunity. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
