THE POSITION

If so, Engineering District 9-0 is currently seeking a full-time Engineering Technician to join our Highway Design team. During a 12-month training program, you will acquire in-depth knowledge of traffic engineering principles. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This one-year trainee program focuses on responsibilities related to highway design. The role involves aiding in the creation of highway plans based on field survey data. Responsibilities include drafting and detailing work necessary for developing highway plans, progressing from initial sketches to comprehensive final plans. The trainee will also support the preparation of plans for simpler highway projects, such as resurfacing, restoration, rehabilitation, lane widening, and safety improvements at intersections. Additional tasks include performing basic computations, assisting in the establishment of grade lines and gradients, calculating earthwork and material quantities, and plotting roadway and channel templates on cross sections. The trainee will contribute to the preparation of various plans for highway construction, encompassing right-of-way maps, centerline drawings, profiles, topography, cross sections, drainage, and final construction documents. Furthermore, the role involves creating soils maps that highlight geographical issues, deed plot drawings, viewer plans, and other relevant charts. Participation in field trips with project engineers is also expected to assist in taking measurements, notes, and sketches.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
