THE POSITION

Washington County Public Health Division is recruiting for Part-time Bilingual (Spanish/English) Community Health Worker I positions to join our Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program. The opportunity is part-time, .70 FTE (28 hours/week), and is limited duration with a tentative end date of 6/30/2025. Part-time Limited Duration positions are eligible for sick time and vacation time accruals and holiday pay prorated based on the hours worked but are not eligible for other customary benefits such as life insurance, medical, dental, or vision benefits.
About the Program:
The WIC program focuses on nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health and diet screening, growth monitoring, and program referrals for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children up to 5 years of age. WIC serves families from diverse cultural and ethnic traditions, languages, backgrounds, and abilities. It is designed to promote positive health outcomes, strengthen life course nutrition and health, and reduce health disparities of the populations we serve.

About the Opportunity:
The Community Health Worker I is responsible for weighing and measuring adults, infants and young children, plotting growth, and screening participants for anemia by conducting a Hemoglobin finger blood draw. This position maintains lab logs with a daily temperature check, sets up the lab and measurement rooms for the shift, and cleans up the rooms at the end of shift. This position is also responsible for communicating the lab and measurement process to WIC participants and assisting with appointment reminder calls for next business day and providing assistance to the front desk receptionist as needed. This position travels to several clinic locations in Washington County, as needed.
Due to the nature of responsibilities, this position is not eligible for remote work.
Bilingual Positions:
Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of another language (primarily Spanish) besides English. It is required to possess precise writing skills (including spelling, grammar, and punctuation), fluent speaking skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Upon successfully passing the applicable proficiency assessment test in a selected language, the bilingual differential pay will offer an additional compensation per pay period prorated based on the hours worked. Full-time positions offer $75 per pay period, and the pay periods are every two weeks.
An ideal candidate would have:
- Training or experience in the WIC Program and/or familiarity of WIC services (Current/past WIC participants).
- Ability to represent Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) communities of Washington County.
- Training and experience with conducting blood tests and taking measurements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND One (1) year of work experience in the health care, community health, or social services field;
- Two (2) years of college-level training in health occupations may substitute for one year of work experience.
