Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $146,400 - Midpoint: $212,300 (Salaried E18)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Executive Director Research Computing IT directs the development, operation, and maintenance of campus high-performance computing systems. Oversees IT service delivery for other enterprise research computing infrastructure and services, including GIS, data center management, research networks, research storage, external research resource connectivity, etc. Serves as service and product portfolio owner for research computing IT services, ensuring appropriate key stakeholder involvement, governance, service documentation, delivery, and support. Recruits, manages, and develops research computing staff with the appropriate skills and expertise.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and six (6) years of IT experience; OR bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of IT experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels. Advanced analytical, project, and process management skills. Knowledge of IT security concepts and applications. Knowledge of scientific computational domains in the context of supercomputing. High-level knowledge of high-performance/research computing trends and technologies

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in a field with a computing component. Fifteen (15) years of experience leading and managing complex, high-risk, and/or high-dollar IT projects and platforms, including at least five (5) years in a research computing environment. Experience cultivating a collaborative strategy and establishing and maintaining strong relationships to positively influence others toward a common vision or goal. Experience with IT budget fiscal standards and strategies, including forecasting, planning, and business case preparation. Experience managing research system data centers. Experience with leading supercomputing teams in both technical and managerial capacities, with experience in designing and building cross-functional technology teams. Experience with research data management, tiered storage lifecycle strategies, and usage/cost optimization. Understanding of DevOps tools and technologies and the applicability to clustered environments.
