THE POSITION

Are you searching for advanced professional accounting work in which you will supervise, lead, monitor, and train a professional accounting staff engaged in the analysis, reconciliation, classification and reporting of various complex and highly automated investment account activities? Join the Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS), Office of Financial Management in this highly responsible Accountant 3 position. If you excel at improving current procedures and helping to implement new procedures as deemed necessary, acting as an operational liaison for various third-party service providers, and providing technical expertise through review, research, and resolution of routine, unique, or complex investment accounting transactions, then this is the role for you!



DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, our team will rely on you to make decisions regarding the results of the daily analysis of various complex and highly automated investment activities, security types, and transaction types, resulting in the resolution of complex reconciliation issues. You will be expected to assess and identify best practices to ensure that PSERS receives the contracted reconciliation and reporting benefits from the custodial bank. Your experience and judgement are essential for determining if monthly general ledger work is complete and accurate following generally accepted accounting principles, and whether there is a need for general ledger adjustment transactions, as well as enforcing compliance with the requirements of various internal and external financial, government, and management reports.

Work also includes developing recommendations for policies and procedures for the independent daily investment accounting processing environment and determining the need for requesting Investment Accounting System program and software modifications required in order to properly maintain the required processes and procedures for all current and future investments for the covered funds of PSERS' complex and diverse investment portfolio. Accountability is essential as you will review, monitor, analyze, and prepare various internal and external financial, government, and management reports as well as maintain a proficient knowledge of various investment and accounting software packages, the investment markets, and their impact on fund performance. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Accountant 2; or
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation. A Master's degree in Accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience.
