Job Summary

The ECE Student Support Manager oversees undergraduate and graduate advising and student services in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. This role involves managing a comprehensive graduate and undergraduate program from recruitment to graduation, providing supervision to support advising and student services infrastructure. The incumbent manages the Graduate Program Fellowship Allocation (GPFA), and other awards, and oversees operation, policies, and resources to support student success, time to degree, and career outcomes. The position is also responsible for the overall implementation of GSR, TA, Reader contracts and Fellowship awards; and provides coordination and implementation of outreach, recruitment, and orientation activities; and planning and hosting departmental events. Additionally, the ECE Student Support Manager promotes program visibility through social media and marketing materials, maintains alumni databases and relationships, and supports departmental goals through strategic collaboration with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. This position operates with independence supervising the advising personnel and coordinating the administrative responsibility for graduate and undergraduate support services. Work is performed autonomously under the general direction of the CAO, Graduate Program Vice Chair, and Department Chair. The incumbent independently provides full support, manages the research areas' unique course requirements, recruitment practices, and funding strategies, ensuring programmatic goals and equity are maintained.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

* Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
* Experience providing supervision to others, including recruiting, training, managing expectations and workload, corrective action, and training and development opportunities.
* Experience at the university level working with graduate students in a degree-oriented program(s), assessing progress toward degree and the understanding and knowledge of academic needs and concerns of students in a higher educational setting.
* Experience with counseling and guidance techniques to advise students and to help them resolve academic, social; and emotional problems and to make sensitive referrals.
* Leadership skills to advocate for and guide graduate program(s) toward their stated mission.
* Analytical skills to evaluate and interpret complex policies, procedures and reference materials that apply to students; evaluate and interpret a wide variety of domestic and international college credentials; develop and manage budgets and to assemble statistical reports in support of graduate student funding using computer skills to utilize office software and database applications.
* Writing skills to compose and edit correspondence, reports, reviews and informational materials to correspond with applicants, faculty, students, student services offices, and off-campus agencies and organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with college/university regulations, procedures, university governance and familiarity with public university structures,
* with general curricular elements and structures (e.g., courses, units, prerequisites, majors and minors) and with course schedule development, pedagogical approaches at the college and university level.
* Experience using BANNER, GRADTRAKS, DESII, SIS,Excel, AggieAccess and at developing and adapting procedures to ensure compliance with policy requirements; general knowledge of objectives and policies of the unit and campus concerning various graduate programs, and non-traditional and
* international constituencies; and to examine and assess college transcripts and accurately compute grade point averages.
* Communications skills to actively listen, give helpful feedback and provide useful information carefully choosing a tone and delivery in conveying information; utilize appropriate media; and be aware of impact on others.
* Organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and anticipate needs of the program and students.

Department Overview

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is a large, complex academic department in the College of Engineering and provides instruction and research in six specialty areas of engineering. The Department has 39 faculty, 5 adjunct professors, 5 professional research engineers, 25 Professional Scientists and technical staff, and 10 administrative staff. The department has one of the largest undergraduate and graduate programs in the college with approximately 795 undergraduates and 260 graduate students enrolled. The incumbent of this position works in an independent manner. The Department houses one graduate program with approximately 200 graduate students who can obtain a MS and/or PhD degree, as well as an integrated BS/MS program. In conjunction with the Chair and leadership of the department and relevant external parties. The current budget for organized research is $24.5M (with an expenditure rate of about $12.4M) and the current budget for instruction and research is ~$15M in uses. All other operations uses are sourced at $12.7M with $12.6M uses. The Department occupies 60,000 square feet of departmentally assigned space, as well as space used by department faculty but assigned by other units.
